Mice vote to bell cat

It means nothing for the New York Supreme Court to approve a New York tax on an out of state business. This one has to be settled in the Federal courts.

Look for amazon to no longer allow people from NY to become affiliates or simply to no longer to sell to NY residents. Once NY residents get pissed off enough the law will change. State need to get with the times and find another source of revenue. It's 2009 not 1909. The same methods are not going to work.

Another source of revenue such as what? Increased income or property taxes? Or do you propose the states fund their projects with more deficit spending?

It's not about INCREASING revenue, it's about balancing revenue with spending.

There was an piece in the NJ Star Ledger a few weeks back that pointed out that while private sector employment in NJ has DECREASED 3 or 4% ( exact numbers escape me ) the public sector- State Workers- employment numbers has INCREASED by 3-4%. Toss COAH, School Construction Corp, Highlands Act, Family Leave act etc on top of the out of control spending and you have a mess. ( Better watch it or this will get moved the the RANTS Forum )

When I find my self short of cash, I can't go to my boss -I am retired- and say I need more money, I need to hold back spending to keep things in balance.

Extra Taxes are not the answer.

Exactly! This state in particular needs an axe to the state budget. The last thing I need is a property tax increase.

The sales tax increase already has me driving to PA to buy stuff.

The point is relying on sales taxes for revenue is dumb. In bad economy guess what revenues go down. My state( TN ) doesn't have a state income tax and 90% of our budget comes from sales taxes. Now our state is in a world of hurt with budget shortfall and cuts have to be made everywhere. With a state income tax at least the budget would be more stable. So yes states to need to find something else to finance their budgets with other than sales taxes.

As a property owner I think property taxes are dumb, because you never really own the property (stop paying your property taxes and see what happens). Sales taxes are actually a pretty good idea because they are consumption based, and Americans like to consume. Plus you don't penalize people for making money, only for spending it.
