And companies long before the wireless companies were given the right to use the Airwavz for public TV.

Regardless if the country is not ready we're not ready. Maybe you should pony up the money and buy the boxes that people need.

Or maybe AT&T should expand their "future proof" tv service their marketing and we wouldn't have this problem since they're claiming their the ONLY TV service that won't be affected by the change.
Sorry, but there were enough people in North Carolina that ignored all warnings because they were "too busy" to do anything about it.

Some people don't want the change. Should we hold it up until these people say it is o.k.?

Sometimes the ONLY way to force the issue is to make them face it head on.

I completely agree, but the percentage of people who will be affected is still too high. I don't know what the answer is, but commercials aren't working so simply spewing more of them during prime-time isn't going to work. And I've yet to see any other plan put forth or even suggested for that matter.
And year after year, people ask for extensions because they can't file their taxes on April 15th. Some of these are the same people who do it every single years because they can't be bothered with it and wait until the last minute to do them.

I agree. When the changeover occurs, they'll finally have to do something about it. We've all been hearing about this changeover for a long time now. I normally have sympathy for people who aren't tech-savvy or who can't afford new tech (goodness knows, I can't, many times), but the commercials about the change have been stuck in between all those shows that people who don't pay attention to tech normally watch for over a year now, so there is no excuse. If they don't have the money now for the new box, they're not going to have it later.

Let's take that giant step into the future and be done with it already.

Actually, even if you somehow missed every one of those notifications, they did one final notification (and this IS something I think the FCC should have done as well). When they cut off the TV analog feeds, they didn't shut down analog entirely. For about 10 - 14 days per market, they replaced the analog feed with a red screen of death - a message (on a blood red background) saying in essence 'if you're seeing this message YOU NEED TO CALL US NOW TO GET A FREE DIGITAL ADAPTER!'

I really think the FCC should have transitioned that way too. Cut off the analog TV feeds for about a month. During that month show a 2-minute infomercial on those analog feeds
, telling the people who missed the boat what they need to do to get their TV programming back.
That is EXACTLY what stations will be doing. After the shutoff, the analog signal will be maintained with a screen explaining ONCE AGAIN that a cutover has occurred and where to call to get help.

It is called the "Analog Nightlight" program and was passed by Congress late last year.

Well there you have it. A completely acceptable solution to just saying, "F'em all. Let them wake up to snow and figure it out themselves."

Thanks Tk, I wonder why all the self-proclaimed experts in this thread didn't know about this?

This the first I've heard of the Analog Nightlight Program and suspect many haven't heard of it because the law was passed at the last minute during the holiday season. Now if Congress will just authorize the NTIA to use the money for the coupons that aren't expected to be redeemed before they expire there really isn't any reason for further delay.

I came across that distinction as a kid. Growing up in Philadelphia, it was always soda. But when I visited my cousins in upstate NY, it was pop.

Down here in the South, it's just Coke or Pepsi, depending on which you prefer. Most people call everything a "Coke", even if it's a Dr. Pepper or Mtn. Dew.

I really knew it too, I was just checking to see if you did.

See how I did that? I can claim whatever I want after the fact to make it seem like I really knew something I had no idea about too.

If he's the guy telling Obama to get the DTV transiton delyed I already don't like him.

We'll see though. nice to see he's for helping America get out of being a 3rd world broadband nation.
I said to a member here about 3 years ago after they were set on the 2009 date for DTV I told this person I BET they will delay it one more time.. and looks like it's going to happen..

Nah, I think it's too close now. I think the argument "Delaying now will just cause MORE confusion" will win out and the change will go ahead as scheduled.
