Here's a couple more stories »www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthr···?t=84134 »www.digitalhome.ca/content/view/2426/206/ Not sure what Cogeco's compression is but I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of stations are 3:1 |

| Affects video quality? Like my Global Channel? 24, Heroes and etc look like shit, mainly 24 though. I mean its not even really HD the quality at times, size wise maybe, but quality wise hell no. Its like I see water-ripples. And only on this channel...and mainly for 24 I believe.
So if this is the case, I'm guessing there will never be a fix? |

| reply to AMailer Ok, these problems are really starting to bug me now actually.
They've been occuring much more frequently recently, and they keep happening right at the worst time too! Right as a key line comes up...

ARGH!
That, and the audio drops caused by re-winding and pausing are starting to bug me too. Not directly, but it bugs the rest of my family, and I always have to come to the rescue to fix it, which bugs me. |

| reply to vdbleu The churn rate on HD PVR subscriptions must be quite high if this problem is widespread. Does it affect HD boxes without PVR as well? -- All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing - Edmund Burke. "Walk the Talk". |

Sorry I haven't been able to provide anything but CATV is not my forte and I don't have any particular insight so I'm waiting for feedback from others and...well...I haven't had anything to post yet. I'll bug people again though.
For what it's worth, on a personal note I don't notice this at all and I have a 6416 - that said I don't necessarily watch alot of TV or HD channels in particular but figured I'd throw that out there. -- you can lead a horse to the water but you cannot make him drink...you can put a man through school but you cannot make him think --ben harper

I do watch lots of TV, and my 6416 has many dropouts. I'm trying to remember whether these are only on playback or on live TV (who watches live TV anymore when you can use a PVR and skip over the commercials?). |

| reply to AMailer Well I don't have an overly verbose update but here's what I have for now.
1. The issue is known to management on high and considered a high priority issue 2. Troubleshooting is still being done 3. Once troubleshooting is complete a forward action plan will be put in place
So I don't have any concrete resolution time at the moment and since CATV isn't my thing I don't really have any extra intel to add...I'm basically just paraphrasing the email responses I received back from the depts and invididuals involved. I also forwarded them all this thread so they're aware of your specific complaints as well.
I'll let you know more when I know more as I asked them to loop me into future updates so I can pass them onto you guys. -- you can lead a horse to the water but you cannot make him drink...you can put a man through school but you cannot make him think --ben harper

| Thanks for the update Krispy ... I came here today as the problem has been occuring for me this week and prior weeks for a while, and I wasn't sure if it was my box or widespread. Unfortunately wide spread. I hope the cause of the problem is found soon. |

| reply to AMailer funny, I was dropping by to reference this thread again, not 2 seconds after logging into BBR I heard my wife yell at me again that the 6208 HD receiver in the bedroom had lost audio in 2 sections of her show for a second or 2 in each instance. It's only been 2 weeks since I power cycled the unit as well, time to return yet another 6208 unit for exchange. -- Rampage Formula/Xeon Quad X3360 @ 4.14Ghz/8GB GSKill /8800UltraExtreme/Coolit Freezone Elite Water/TEC Cooler/TT Armor/Antec Quattro 1000/5.6TB |

Just a personal update -- I now know what you're all talking about. I just watched my recording 'An Evening With Kevin Smith 2' from the other night and I just gave up less then halfway through as it was pointless with all the audio dropouts...for a while I forgot this thread so just though the censors were going a little overboard! -- you can lead a horse to the water but you cannot make him drink...you can put a man through school but you cannot make him think --ben harper

1 edit | reply to AMailer I still experience this problem pretty much every night now, with dropouts that can last anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds. I know my area isn't fully digital at the moment as I only get about half of the HD channels that are available.
I do know one thing, Cogeco gets it's content from Rogers and right now they are revamping the way HD channels get fed to their customers. I've heard that they put 2 hd channels on 1 analog channel and right now they have sorta a On demand HD channel picker. So when a certain area isn't using a specific channel it goes into a que and more bandwidth becomes available to the area. Then when the channel is requested again it goes online and the next lowest used channel goes to the que.
My friend that has Rogers tells me this is far from seamless and is causing problems for Rogers customers and I would tend to think this is the major issue that we are experiencing. |
