Re: [Burlington] Random sound disruptions with HD channels

that is called Switched Digital Video and in essence it is a vod for tv.

The drop out issue like has been said is highest priority right now.

I hope so. HD has been unbearable this week.

At this point I've gotten an ATSC tuner for my computer to give OTA a shot. If it works well we'll be switching to it full time for HD and backing off to basic cable for everything else.

Is it my imagination or is it now happening on non-hd channels as well? Just not as frequently....

It is not just your imagination AMailer, it's happening on any channel I watch now.

I was just watching The Simpsons on 003, and the sound was cutting out every 10 seconds or so. Then I was watching DEA on 014, and again, sound dropouts every few minutes.

What the hell? They say they're fixing it, but the problem is getting worse and worse by the day...

And here I thought I was getting away from Bell (and its likes), guess not.

Back when I had Cogeco HD, channels would freeze for about 10-60 seconds once to four times a day. Didn't really bother me, I live in St. Catharines so it's a little bit more wide spread than Burlington.

This is getting beyond ridiculous. Cogeco has had MONTHS to fix this problem. When can we expect the quality of service we are promised?

I wish I could subscribe to Shaw out here, vastly superior support and service.

Shaw has the exact same issue with their service. It hasn't been fixed yet either.

I also spoke with a friend in the states, he's on Verizon FiOS and uses a Motorola QIP7100... same issue too.

This is obviously a problem with the Motorola boxes.

I've had this problem ever since i upgraded to HD and got their digital access 1 package w/ DCT6200 HD box, its so damn annoying sounds cutting out in every HD channel i watched randomly about every 30 mins or so, On some channels it got really bad and the pictures started pixelating etc. I've had the cogeco tech come over and they replaced the cable box outside that feeds most of the neighbor hood, and hasn't changed anything so.

I'm in burlington also, is this area the only place affected?

This definitely happens outside of Burlington. I live in Windsor and have been getting this audio issue for a really long time now. I just ignored it until seeing this topic. I had no idea it was this wide spread.

Hopefully this is solved soon. It's really annoying listening to shows and then miss what was said thanks to a couple seconds of no audio.

Any news when we can expect this to be fixed? How about a rate reduction till it is fixed?

Talk about getting worse. Simpson in HD on NBC was impossible to watch, and I really mean impossible. Its as though I do not have good enough speeds to properly stream it.

Practically every other 5 seconds the sound went off. I'm not even sure why its becoming worse.

exseven any update from Cogeco or is this completely being ignored? I like how the first post (I just noticed this) you made said "this should have been fixed as of this morning" even though this issue has been (supposedly) going on for years...

On a side note, this problem only occurs (from what I have seen so far) with 24 on Global in HD. Everytime I watch 24, randomly at some points of the show, the image becomes "bury" as though a "water filter" was added onto some parts of the image. Usually this can be seen mainly for the background focus (say the camera is focused on a persons face, the problem will occur for the background).
Not sure if this is related to the sound drop outs or that compression that someone was talking about, but its pretty annoying - just a good thing that it doesn't happen on all channels/shows.

I've actually noticed that the sound problems are worst on shows originating on the FOX network. I believe 24 is initially fed by FOX but broadcast in Canada through Global.

Uh oh... I had never read this thread until now, because tonight on our plain old DCT1800 cable box we experienced a few sound dropouts and some video noise. I *JUST* purchased a DCT6208 which is now on the way, with the intent of trying out Cogeco HD, but I have a feeling I'm in for a world of disappointment.

This is frustrating to say the least. I'm getting ripped off on my internet with no viable alternative, our digital phone has on-and-off issues which tech support couldn't fix yet, and now cable TV looks like it's going down the tube.

I used to be a happy six-year customer, what happened to Cogeco?

They overloaded their copper and thought they could get away with it, that's what.

This definitely isn't being ignored. While cable TV stuff is out of my realm I did do some investigating for this thread and then added in my two cents on a personal level when I experienced it and while I can't really go into detail (plus I'd probably screw something up and confuse everyone more!) I will just say it's a complex issue that is getting alot of attention.

Also happens with Shaw and Delta Cable in B.C. (DCT 6416). HD Channels. For some reason effecting FOX HD the most.

Is it being worked on much like the internet issues? Perhaps we should stop paying a portion of our bill until it is fixed? You pay good money for an HD tv. You pay a lot more money for DigitalCable + Channels that you can get over the air for free (atleast in Windsor).

I've powercycled the units a few times here and there over the last 4 years with some success, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Typical of the "Reboot your machine" service desk first response
