[XP Pro] Windows Update install Ideacom software

I just updated my laptop and I stupidly installed an update that said it was for Ideacom Technology - Input - HID Touch Screen (PS/2).
It was installed and it messed up my touchpad and pointer.
I have tried to uninstall via the Device Manager but each time I do it keeps reinstalling itself.

How do I remove this software?
It is not in the Add/Remove.

This won't be much help but I noticed Windows Update offered this to one of my XP workstations at the office today, the problem is I have no Ideacom Technology Touch Screen anything. I didn't install it, glad I didn't. Very strange.

Very strange indeed....I was offered the exact same "optional hardware" update on two of my XP desktop machines at home. (I hid them, never to be seen again).

Like BillRoland, I have no such thing on either machine.

And sorry, I don't really have a solution either, other than possibly a system restore point to before the update...providing of course you don't have system restore disabled.

Or an imaging program...something I highly recommend for the future if you don't already have one.
I always make a fresh image of my system drive before I install any updates on "Patch Tues".

The same thing happened to me. If you restart your pc right away and select your F8 key after the bios screen, a menu will appear. Select Last Known Good Configuration. Restart the laptop or pc and you should be all set. Go back into updates on MS website, deselect the same update that caused the issue and select to not show the update again. I hope this helps.

By the way, if you are reading my first message about F8 on the laptop or pc with the issue, last known configuration is too late. Once you successfully log in, that now becomes your last known good configuration.

Tried the "Last Good..." but no luck.
Still reinstalls software.
I just did a search of all files. Can you believe it, there is nothing with Ideacom on the hard drive.

I am hoping someone will come up with something.

Does MS have an email or phone Windows Update support that I can call?(free)

I had the same problem.

Just rename the driver and uninstall it.

Here is how to

QUOTE
The file should be in C:\windows\system32\drivers\idcphid.sys (it will say under driver info for the ideacom touch screen driver, but leave the other i8042prt.sys driver alone) once you have uninstalled the driver from your windows folder delete or rename the file then restart.

Wow...glad I looked this up before I installed it! I wondered which device I had that Microsoft Update thought was a touchscreen. Now I wonder who wrote the qualifiers for the update and whether they still have their job.

Hey everyone. Here's simple solution:
using your arrows go to
1. Search
2. Device Manager
3. Using the arrows and "tab" to to HID devices
4. Expand it
5. Click UNINSTALL
6. YOU'RE GOOD TO GO

The good people at Dell walked me through the solution to this problem. Hit F8 upon startup, go into safe mode, and do a system restore to a checkpoint a couple of days ago. Should be good to go after that.

I'm glad too I came here first before installing any MS updates. I'm just going to ignore this too.
EDIT: Performed a CUSTOM scan and this item did not come up? Perhaps Microsoft has now removed the item from their servers?

Anyone got problem installing the update of

Ideacom Technology Inc. - Input - IdeaCom HID Touch Screen (PS/2)

Try to restore ur system to the time before installing that stupid update.........Use microsoft system restore.......

4 vista it will give automatically a restore point during update...use that restore point...
