Re: Moving to Cheyenne

Yes; as many have mentioned; there are a lot of nice things about Wyoming; and Cheyenne. The wind however can be a Bi-Otch. Cheyenne and Laramie have been reported as 2 of the windiest; on a steady basis; places in the country. But you really do get use to it.

Because of the wind; there is no car inspections and epa type inspections. Any smog or pollution we would have, blew into Nebraska with the wind. As Rocky mentioned; taxes are almost nothing. My 3000 sq ft house pays $900 a year property tax. NO personal state income tax. UP TO 6% total sales tax depending on the city/county you go to. Only 550,000 people in the entire state. Great place for hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities.

The people are indeed really nice. Cheyenne is a little different than the rest of the state. Mainly because of a large military population and military roots. Most of these folks weren't born and raised here. They are transplants. Plus, the proximity to Ft Collins and Denver makes for a different type of "Spare Time" for cheyenne residents. Towns like Laramie is "University" oriented. The north-east is a lot of gas/oil fields. Wyoming is the nation's largest coal producer. The only area people have ever had issues; per se; with as wyoming residents; is the Jackson Hole area. This is an area where many people have move to from out of state where they sold their homes and such; and in Wyoming dollars buys a lot. In turn, it has raised the cost of living in Jackson Hole to a disgusting level. Also; many, not all, of those moving in have no respect for the wyoming heritage, culture, or people. It's actually quite common for people to call the sheriff or city police and complain because there are deer, elk, bears, moose, etc... on their property. Sorry; but most Wyoming folks have no respect for them. But; get out of Jackson Hole; and the people of wyoming are great. Very family oriented. Progress is nice, but they LIKE the relaxed attitude. People from out of state move here for that reason. Great place to relax; raise your kids/family; work hard then play hard; etc...

Welcome to wyoming and to cheyenne. PM me if you have any direct Cheyenne questions. I've lived here for quite a long time and I've worked all over the entire state. later... mike....
