Perhaps Qwest should take up the position of simply providing a quality "dumb pipe" by improving their network, doing fiber rollouts and offering competitive high speed data packages.
As long as the financial weenies and wall street analysts see that as a low margin business, it's not going to happen. Look at the so called "content" players - i.e. cable companies: year over year price increases, crying crocodile tears about the evil sports & entertainment companies taking advantage of them, all the while laughing to the bank.

Compare that with the dumb pipe providers who have one discriminator: speed, who have to invest each year in bumping up that speed to offset some of the pressure to reduce prices on that dumb pipe.
