 | FIOS' overbuilding in North TX Does anyone have any information on what towns will be included in this buildout? I'm assuming Garland is one of them (which will be very beneficial for a friend of mine who is on the fringe of Verizon territory where AT&T won't even provide DSL much less U-Verse). Also, will this reach into any suburbs that are wholly (or mostly) wired by another ILEC (AT&T in this case)?

 | I know that south Keller, along North Tarrant Parkway, I have seen the contractors laying fiber with signs stating that FIOS is coming soon. |
|
 | Thanks...if anyone else has similar findings, please mention them here. Verizon has shown more enthusiasm for the northern suburbs and counties thus far...of course, Garland serves as their southern and Rowlett their eastern ILEC barriers. |

That's an ideal area for overbuilding. There are several small "pockets" of AT&T surrounded by VZ in N Fort Worth. Now we need to get Keller ISD off the Charter crack pipe and into some real speed that doesn't bog twice a day...

 | reply to vinnie97 Verizon is also overbuilding in Allen. They laid the fiber in my neighborhood nearly 4 months ago, and I'm waiting, rather impatiently, for them to light it up.
Their system allows a CSR to place the order, but it eventually cancels it (without notification to the customer) since it isn't quite ready.
Any insiders know what the time frame for commercial availability is in overbuild situations? |

 | reply to vinnie97 They are also doing an overbuild in South Grapevine and the eastern part of Colleyville that has always been AT&T. The Grapevine area is south of HallJohnson Road. |

| reply to vinnie97 They've laid the cable in our neighborhood this past summer which includes much of south watauga as far as the Haltom City line. I've been told by a Verizon source some of Watauga will be live in Janurary and the rest Q1. He couldn't/didn't give specific dates. I can't wait. |

 | Quite jealous of all you northerners, as usual. |

 | So...Watauga, Grapevine, Colleyville, Allen, Frisco and Keller known so far. Tarrant and Collin Counties only basically. Poor Dallas. |

wesmPremium join:1999-07-29 Redmond, WA 1 edit | I believe VZ will only overbuild where they have nearby facilities to reach into the new areas. Dallas County (and City of Dallas proper, regardless of county) was assigned ("gifted") to Southwestern Bell back in the day and General Telephone and Electric (GTE) got whatever SWB didn't want. All of the cities you've listed have AT&T and Verizon facilities, mostly by virtue of historical build-out patterns. Dallas will likely never see the kind of build out found in other areas because there's simply no Verizon facilities (of use to a large deployment) in the entire area. -- Opinions expressed here are mine and not my employer's. 2 edits | Thanks for that bit of history delineation. The only reason I can think of them not overbuilding into the aforementioned area in Garland (bordering Mesquite, just south of I-30 and west of Lake Ray Hubbard) is due to lack of facilities in the area...but as I insinuated, FIOS is available in an apartment complex literally a block away from a friend whose only broadband option is TWC. His entire subdivision and likely others nearby all the way to the border of Mesquite are likely AT&T-owned and managed and I had hoped this recent trend of overbuilding would not be limited to only the northern counties. I guess it's a Telco no man's land and I'm sure Time Warner has no problems with that. |

1 edit | For reference, it's the subdivision just southeast of this intersection: »maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=···anoramio
There is an apartment just east of that intersection on Bobtown with FIOS capability (in the blank space between I30 and Bobtown ) |

| reply to vinnie97 My biggest complaint about FiOS in North Texas is Verizon's lack of backbone presence in the central US. They have none, so all of our traffic is pretty much routed through the coasts to come back to most central stuff on other backbones, which is retarded.
I wish they would expand their backbone presence in Dallas or Texas if their gonna build out so much FiOS here |
|
 | reply to vinnie97 Verizon will likely roll out the Fios in the "Next Neighborhood Over" builds as soon as they have fully tested the new FiOS Digital Voice system. I'm betting they don't want to roll something out in a competitors back yard where they can't offer us the same or better service than that competitor has there now.
Patience. |

sooooooo glad to hear this news. i realize this is old news for some. i got FIOS back in March 2005 and was in sweet heaven for a year before moving out of the area. i've been popping in here off and on for the last couple years just hoping to see some indication of progress towards an expansion. there are freshly planted gas line flags at the entrance to my neighborhood. just hoping to see some orange spools and trenchers in the coming months. |

Re: FIOS' overbuilding in North TX Any hear when Fios will be turned on for south Keller. Lines have been run from October 2008. Still waiting |
|
 | A couple of weeks ago some Verizon guys were repairing damage to the fiber along Johnson Road done by Charter (Charter also broke a gas line!). I talked to them for a while and we talked about South Keller, they said it was hopefully going to happen in March. Now that info and $1.85 might get you a rather poor cup of coffee.
Hope you get it soon. I have had FiOS internet for over 3 1/2 years and TV over 3 1/4 years, would never, ever go back to Charter. -- Justin Verizon FiOS TV and Internet Motorola QIP6416 HD DVR Sony KDL-V40XBR1 |

 | reply to ceeb0t West of the 75 and still waiting. With my remote access requirements, this 1.5mb/sec upstream cap is killing me. |
|
 | I am also west of 75 (n/e of hedgcoxe and custer intersection). They have been laying cable since about mid October. From what I have gathered, they are taking about 6 months from when they start to when they are ready to fill orders. If this holds true, fios will be available in mid April. |
