The "mod" process is rather simple in reality, if you would like to do it yourself. You only need a hex editor, and after downloading the original firmware from D-Link, you just need to set the ID code at the end of the firmware to match your router's current firmware's identity, so that the firmware update code in router config thinks that the firmware is for itself.

No you can't downgrade with D-LINK firmwares anymore so your stuck with current firmware. Plus the Trendnet firmware was lousy didn't have much features it was just basic. I updated my TEW-652BRP (which was running 3.01 firmware) to 3.11NA. So far so good. Not so many visible changes at first flance, but at least a new IPv6 status screen showing the current tunnel and IPv6 data.

No I re-modded C1/3.01 firmware myself with hex editor also the one for trendnet if you wanted to flash back, that's posted here in this thread just have to look for the link.

No I had the modded C1/3.01 firmware flashed, you need that to flash to C2/3.10NA firmware otherwise it won't work unless it's re-modded but I don't think these newer firmware could be changed so easy.

I ran test using Xirrus link speed and speed test which uses speedeasy I got 3097 for up and 16948 for download. Still the heatsink on the WNPU really keeping the Atheros 9103 chip cooler.

Completed the test for N.. I was able to go outside and do some testing with N. I was surprise to see how well it did outside the house but inside was another matter. Last year there was only 6 houses with wireless now it's up to 10 and 3 are unsecured and last year there was 3 are unsecured so that number hasn't changed.

I've tested all the bedrooms on second floor and first floor main rooms and the basement family room. I see than in that room the DIR-655 is in there. It's going to be needed for wireless N as the signal is weak only showing 60/120 mostly a 60mbps in that room. Just like the Master Bedroom 60/120mbps. Dining Room/Kitchen area it's about 120/280 so that's not bad. Those with 60/120 has my concern though.

All other rooms are 150/300mbps. Last year I did G with DIR-655 so results were very good using WHR-HP-G54 running DD-WRT. I haven't done it with TEW-652BRP running DIR-615 C1/3.01. Maybe tomorrow or later on sometime. I was more concern with N to see how it did.

Number 3 is the latest modding, since both wireless ANT connected here I decided to add 3rd heat sink to reduce excess heat which the tin metal always seem to be hot.

I'll be running some Wireless Mod Test on two laptops one with high power G 255mW and Normal Power N 100mW. I use aluminum heat sink, I've added this addition a few weeks ago onto the Atheros WNPU shown above. The other one on the main NPU won't be coming off. The one I am using on the WNPU had came off old Linksys 5-port switch but so did the NPU that has to be grind down using a dremel tool and use the spin cutter I was able to reduce the size of the heatsink by 3 fens to fit onto the WPNU shown about. I now stand this unit facing downwards with the ANT pointing up. Now it handle all wireless devices.

I see you did the same thing as me with the sides? But you still have some blockage.. Just use a flat head screw driver to pull them down then rock it back and forth them just pop off easy



This way the heat goes out from the bottom or like I said turn it around then have the ANT stand upright with the light downward on the stand.
