 [Internet] I used 13 Gigs in a day!? O_O

According to Bell's "accurate" Internet Usage meter, it says that I have used 13 Gigs of bandwidth in only 2 days. I checked it last on Thursday, where it showed 80gigs. I have the extra 30 gig "Insurance *cough SCAM Overage" deal, so I have a total of 90 gigs. I checked it this morning, only to find that I hadn't only gone over the limit, but I was over it by 3 gigs - coming to the conclusion that somehow - I had downloaded/uploaded 13 gigs of stuff, in only 2 days. I am now at a 93 gig usage level, and it doesnt reset until Jan 28th... I'm screwed.

..13 is an unlucky number no?

I will be transferring to Teksavvy, just as soon as Bell stops lieing to me about the CRTC's impending "end of all Unlimited internet services in Canada, including resellers" crap.

Some people manage to use a terabyte in a month, so yes, it's believable that you, or anyone else, could use 6.5 GB per day (which would equal 195 GB per month, if it were constantly like that every day).

Wow a terabyte a month. I don't think I've ever gone over 40 GB usually much less. So far this month I've only used 7.

The simple fact of the matter is that 60 gigs is pathetic.

Even without P2P at all, it is still possible to surpass that cap given the new bandwidth intensive rich content media that's out there.

If you take advantage of YouTube, user content based environments such as Second Life, and if you purchase software online, you run the risk of being nabbed for an additional $30 every month.

Now Bell has the same audacity to impose the same restrictions on independent ISPs. We won't have to wait long before they file their request to the CRTC.

Not really, I just don't know for sure, I would have to check.

Terabyte per month?
Could you explain to us how on God's Green Earth can anyone download that much when most accounts couldn't even do 250 GB per month before the throttle? Unless you are talking about specialty business accounts with 18 Mbps or better feeds?

I run a business and was told explicitly by Bell management that I know personally this can't be provided unless I get fiber. So which is it?

you can easily download 1tb a month on a 7 meg line (taking bells high speed package as a example).

I am on a 5Meg Profile

and I have hit 900Gigs several times already .

I pass about 500gigs atleast per month.

Easy when your downloading almost constantly at your full speed.

Gotta love getting what you pay for.

One of my buddys did around 1TB for his "high score" when bell switched him from his grandfathered unlimited 5meg to 60GB with 7meg without his permission.

He used around 100GB a month typically before so he was paying the same $30 overcharge weather he used 100GB or 1TB.

Now hes on teksavvy (I referred him) and does around 100GB-220GB a month.

My high score my self was 220GB on sympatico ultra back in 2003 (3meg line),And for teksavvy with my 2x5meg lines in ml-ppp it was 199GB. (typically 120GB in a month lowest ive used was 62GB)

I have no idea how someone could use a terabyte in a month (Other then trying to download the whole internet), or even how a savvy user could survive on just 60GB.

For me I rent a weekly movie off xbox market place (in 720P with 5.1 surround sound audio). Bit torrent whatever shows I miss off tv,streaming radio and You-tube a ton.

Well stop downloading everything off the internet!

Ask yourself this before you download the next file.. will I use it in the next 6 to months to use a year or longer? If the answer is no, don't download it.

I rarely put a dent in my 90GB cap, and I have a server, email, blackberry server, and websites going 24/7. Plus I manage to play a little WoW and download some porn.

WHY should we have to ask such things before downloading? Why shouldn't I download a 5gb HD movie that I will throw away 2 hours after it's done downloading it?

If you find yourself asking those questions, it's time to switch from Bell to a less repressive ISP.

And my answer to all those questions is YES.

Thirst for knowledge knows no bounds on the internet, and i for one have a duty to myself to collect and store as much as I can as quick as I can

It can never end. I want to see it all =]

I dont play a little WoW or download a little porn. I explore the inner and outer depths of our Digital World and with that comes vigintillion amounts valuable Data available for you at any given time.

To put it simply: There is no time to think when this much information is presented before you. You just give it all you got with your connection. (Again, it is what you paid for, right ?)

I feel like im in Heaven.

lethal:I pay a large sum of money to enjoy my broadband connection. What most ISP's seem to forget is that at one point in time people would only pay a small fee a month which wasn't profitable and overcharging for usage was normal.

In today's world this is no longer the case. Bandwidth is dirt cheap and the backbone now exists. I understand your statement if a user who pays lets say $10 a month uses 1TB thats abusive. But, alot of us pay in the $50 - $120+ range. The main reason I have my fast connection is for quick download of large files and the ability to not care what I download.
