 | [Speed] New York, NY (Manhattan) -- Slow Uploads & Pings At certain times (seems especially on weekends lately) I have slow upload speeds and high pings. I am on the 10Mbps plan, and download speeds can drop to as little as 2Mbps but are usually OK. Uploads are routinely below 300-400 Kbps, and pings are around 100-300+ms to all websites during bad times (should be around 30ms normally). I've called the support line many times, but they have never been able to find a fix. The issue is hard to track, as it comes and goes, but it is relatively consistent on weekends.
Thank you in advance.

4 edits | reply to MojoMojo I've been having the same issues for several weeks now and I've gotten no help either from here or from support. I'm not sure if it's traffic shaping or what but my speeds seem to cut in half whenever I download a bit
Anyway, this seems to be affecting other markets as well - hard to not catch all other posts about speeds. |

2 edits | We are having again the usual "don't ask-don't tell" routine.
As always, no word from RCN.
When the econmy is down, is it prudent to upset your best (M20)customers?
As I said, as this rate of RCN service detrioration even RoadRunner looks like a winner. |

4 edits | reply to MojoMojo Yeah, I won't bother with tech anymore. Especially after being told I have to pay $39 to talk to someone more knowledgeable than 1st level support |
|
 | reply to MojoMojo would this make my internet connection seem slow? my internet has slowed to a crawl lately. |
|
 | reply to MojoMojo Yes it would make your internet slow to a crawl. Also, I still haven't heard a peep from anyone yet. I try calling sometimes but am on hold for 40 - 60 minutes without getting a tech, so haven't gotten through recently. |

Re: [Speed] New York, NY (Manhattan) -- Slow Uploads & Pings For a few weeks I got severe (10%) packet loss to my first hop (10.22.96.1) That issue has generally stopped but I still have severe packet loss within their network.
Host Loss% Snt Last Avg Best Wrst 1. 192.168.1.1 0.0% 81 0.2 0.2 0.2 0.4 2. 10.22.96.1 0.0% 81 19.2 20.8 7.0 42.2 3. vl4.aggr1.nyw.ny.rcn.net 3.7% 81 37.2 27.8 8.9 175.9
This is sometimes as high as 8%. Sure if I let it run for 100k packets it will average out pretty low but I'd prefer not to wait for 4 hours for an iTunes rental to start. I can't wait for FIOS to show up in my building. Tech support was nothing but polite and helpful but I can get polite conversation cheaper than $120 a month. |

 | I could live with 4Mbps at times if I had to. The packet loss plays havoc with anything interactive and streams though.
Just in case it helps anyone at RCN...

 | Your signal levels look fine, so this isn't the problem. |
