[General] Loss of Internet

Another first for me.
I went to use my computer this evening and the Red Light on my Modem was on.No Internet.Motorola 2210-02-1006,serial # starting with 43.

After doing some trouble shooting, where I found nothing with my lack of knowledge.I could access the ATT home page, but it wouldn't let me go to any sites.I stumbled upon a page requesting my username and password and it went back to normal.I've had DSL Lite for 4 months and this is the first time this happened.

Any ideas about what went wrong ?Just hosed up ?

It sounds like you entered the wrong password when trying to log in . After a certain amount of failed attemptes, it wil connect, but you only have access to the AT&T website. Were you redirected to the password reset page when you were trying to go to any website? I don't know about the redlight part. My modem is in a different room than my computer, so I didn't see status of the LED's on it the couple times when that happened to me. I also have a different modem than you (Westell 2200).

Did you check the modem's logs?

Someone who started this thread had the same problem as you, though they have yet a different modem: »2 Wire Gateway - Red Light on Internet question?

For some odd reason on a rare occasion during a reset (from power failure, etc...) or firmware update the modem will reset back to the att registration user ID and cause problems surfing. I do not see this very often, normally ever 2 to 3 months.

Thanks for the reply.I may have entered the wrong password at first, but I haven't had to manually enter it all since I've had the service. But,now it's working fine...I'll check that other thread and see what it says...

I've used computers a lot at work, but never had to trouble shoot one.If it quit working,we just called another Dept. to come fix it..

No,that wasn't it.I got to it somehow thru the ATT help site.It took me to a page to set update times, time zone, etc.

Then it directed me to a sign in page. They never did tell me that they found the problem. When I signed in on this page,it went right back to working.

Was the Power, Ethernet, and DSL LED green with the Internet LED red? If so this indicates a PPP login failure.

I have seen these modems for no good reason at all just forget everything. The end user would have not done anything to cause it to happen but it would just forget everything. Mine has done it to me twice. I don't think it's just a Motorola 2210 thing because my Westell 6100 has also done it a few times. It's like you just pressed the reset button and reset it to factory defaults.

I would get the pages below or the password reset page. If the pages below I would just enter my info and all would be OK again. If the password reset page I would fully reset my modem to factory defaults then enter my info into the pages below.

Was it these pages below?

1. Customer Information.

2. Auto Calendar Update Configuration.

3. Installation Completing.

4. Installation Completed.

5. Begin surfing the Internet.

Airwolf7,
That is exactly the Scenario I had.I had stumbled around a little until those pages you show appeared.

Everything was green except the internet led was red...After I signed in,it started working again. Thanks

The most likely culprit for the modem reset scenario was the "Auto Calendar Update Configuration" page in the modem/router. I always set a modem/router to never do an auto update because I have seen that function crash more than one modem/router.

I keep the firmware auto update turned off on all my 3347NWG-006 Wireless Gateways for the exact same reason. I got my little butt burned last time they did an auto update and spent most of the day reconfiguring the settings on mine and my customers.

I intend to keep it turned off on my 2210 but forget to do it because I reset mine a lot to take screen captures of different setups when I help people here. I'm also scared that AT&T will send out a firmware update to dumb our 2210 down like the other 2210 that AT&T sends out.
