dangme posted : mattwz, I really appreciate your help. Unfortunately, I've followed your instructions twice and still the files that weren't able to be copied to the networked computer remain that way.

Even *after* I follow those directions, the permissions on the files that can't be accessed remain different from the rest. I've attached screenshots showing the difference.

Interestingly, when I view the permissions after I've removed Everyone (Step 2 in your instructions), the Everyone designation is stripped from every single file in my Music folder. When I follow Step 3, the Everyone designation is added to most files, but not any of the files that I've been having trouble with.

In other words, the technique you suggest seems to work fine with all files except those I've been having trouble with.
<TABLE WIDTH=95% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

This file is accessible on the network

This file isn't accessible on the network

dangme posted : I'm experiencing some file sharing problems over my home network that I'm at a loss to explain or fix. The files reside on a desktop running XP Professional. The files are mp3s that a laptop on the network accesses so the music can be played in a different room.

Here's the problem: When I add new files to the desktop, using a tagging program called Tag & Rename or a CD ripping program called CDex, I run into problems. The laptop, which also runs XP Pro, is able to see those files, but not fully access them. For instance, if I use the laptop to try to copy a file and paste it to a local drive, I get an error message that says "Cannot copy [name of file] Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use."

But here's the strange thing: If I use the desktop machine to make a copy of the file, e.g. Nirvana---Smells Like Teen Spirit.mp3 (the file that can't be copied) becomes Copy of Nirvana---Smells Like Teen Spirit.mp3, the laptop has no difficulty copying the file and pasting it to the local hard drive.

This is really strange behavior. Can someone please help me figure out this problem?

Best,

Dang
