[POLL] Image Viewers - 2009 Member ChoiceImage ViewersAn image viewer or image browser is a computer program that can display stored graphical image, it can often handle various graphic file formats. Such software usually renders the image according to properties of the display such as color depth, display resolution, and color profile. Although one may use a full-featured bitmap graphic's editor (such as Photoshop or the GIMP) as an image viewer, these have many editing functionalities which are not needed for just viewing images, and therefore usually start rather slowly. Also, most viewers have functionalities that editors usually lack, such as stepping through all the images in a directory (possibly as a slideshow). Image viewers give maximal flexibility to the user by providing a direct view of the directory structure available on a hard disk. Most image viewers do not provide any kind of automatic organization of pictures and therefore the burden remains on the user to create and maintain their folder structure (using tag- or folder-based methods). However, some image viewers also have features for organizing images, especially an image database, and hence can also be used as image organizers. ***Some here are for different desktop environments as well. |

This is one of the few categories where just one piece of software suffices for every circumstance and that software is Irfanview |

I voted for Irfanview because I use that too but mostly I use ACDSee but it is a very old version so I thought that it would not be right to vote for it here because the one listed above really refers to the new version. |

Fast Picture Viewer simply cannot be beaten for speed. I use XNview if I need to view thumbnails within folders. |

As for quick image viewing and simple batch tasks (e.g., renaming): Long time Infranview user, though like some of the features in XNview (i.e., tabbed/multi-window browsing).
For actually image editing/processing since I mainly shoot in RAW mode with my DSLRs: Nikon Capture NX Adobe Photoshop Elements |

Very nice poll!
I'm an Irfanview user myself. Used to use ACDSee, but that was many years ago. |

Windows fax and picture viewer. If I need more detailed options and control I use faststone image viewer.
Other than that it goes to photoshop for editing/viewing. |

I have a very old copy of Vueprint that opens pics quicker than most others I've tried. For editing I use ACDSee. My kid's screensaver program uses Picassa. |
