edit - More icons in %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll -- "In the future, that which is not mandatory will be illegal" |

I can't imagine why it would change in Vista Basic... -- "In the future, that which is not mandatory will be illegal" |

| reply to Konaguy Vista does not include the "File Types" tab that we are used to seeing in XP and others. There really is no simple way to change an icon associated with a certain file type.
There is an application located at SourceForge called "Types" that will allow you to do this -- »types.sourceforge.net/
Notes: Although the information page says XP/2000, it will run on Vista (I tried it first ). I chose to "Run as Administrator".
You will have to have Net 2.0 intalled, you can find it here (x86 version) -- Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) -- If things get any worse, I'll have to ask you to stop helping me. |

| I read the post as "I have files that have a certain icon associated with it and want to change to something else".
To the best of my knowledge, the ability to easily change disappeared in Vista (although it can probably be done if you know where to go in the Registry).

For discussion purposes, how would the OP go about finding the icon associated with the file type? -- If things get any worse, I'll have to ask you to stop helping me. |

You can change the file association to a particular format, i.e. a .tif to open with Photoshop. and it would then show the associated icon if the program were installed. -- "In the future, that which is not mandatory will be illegal" |
