 | Rumour: Massive layoffs at Telus From what I hear 2000-3000 layoffs by the end of the week. Lets hope it's not true. |
|
 | it is true. I'm one of them, and I'm getting more and more names filtered thru to me |
|
 | reply to no name Well maybe Telus should move their out-sourcing back home and keep all those skilled workers employed.
Something for Telus Executives to think about. Even if they never read forums on the complaints of out sourced tech support. -- Consumer Rights is more than just a suggestion. |
|
 | reply to no name I don't think they are outsourcing. I think they are just cutting back. |

I would call that outsourcing -- "The views expressed by me are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer" |

 | reply to ManOnTheMoon Actually I didn't say Telus is laying off people to outsource to someone else. I mean that people complain about tech support in some other country(Canadian jobs sent over seas or the workers heavy language accent) and if Telus were to cut jobs there first, then Telus workers here that are facing the axe could man the phones from support centers in BC or Alberta. But Telus does not want to pay a large wage for an $11.00 an hour position and bonus's.
A few call centers in BC closed down last year due to not enough workers to man them. -- Consumer Rights is more than just a suggestion. |

Famous last words? |
|
 | reply to no name They are reducing work force. Outsourcing is a separate matter. |
|
1 edit | reply to no name so far it's managers and clerical staff, with more announcements to come. |
|
 | reply to no name I'm from Toronto and was also let go after many years of service. There are positions such as mine that have been closed here, but some are still working on the same position in Manila. Go figure, they pay less and probably care more on the long run money savings. |
|
 | reply to no name I know one manager who was offered an accepted a package. He was eligible to retire anyway. One of the clerical staff from my workgroup was offered a package or a different job, but hasn't decided what to do yet. |
|
 | I can never understand the logic behind massive layoffs? The company complains that times are tough, economic slow down, cause too many other companies are laying off people and that means less business, so we need to layoff even more people. So who is left to buy the product? That would be like a sprinter chopping off his legs, cause that will make him lighter and therefore he should run faster... |

Sorry to hear of your plights, I was laid off from Telus in the early eighties when we had one of those recession things. I know I didn't like it very much. Chin up....soldier on. -- Alberta Lakes belong to all Albertans, not just the developers! |

 | and some management. |

I thought I'd take the opportunity to clarify what's taking place.
We are engaged in a careful review of TELUS' operations to ensure we are efficient and effective even as our industry continues to undergo massive change. That review revealed that as technology and the competitive environment evolves, the structure that worked in the past is not always the one we need now. As such, we are moving people and resources from declining areas of our business to growing areas. As part of that program there were some difficult decisions made, and some management and a few clerical layoffs last week. In all cases we are taking care of affected people, retraining and redeploying them to growing areas of the business wherever possible and offering generous departure packages where it's not.
Such efficiency programs are nothing new for TELUS - we have had such a program every year since 2001. That ongoing focus on growing areas of our business is one of the ways TELUS has been able to maintain momentum and financial strength even as the industry has gone through unprecedented change in recent years.
Cutting costs in declining areas helps free up resources for strategic investments that require significant capital outlay in the short term, but are key to our company's long-term success - the rollout of TELUS TV and implementation of large enterprise contracts (like the Province of Quebec contract we recently announced), for example.
These careful proactive efficiency measures we are taking will help ensure our companys performance and economics remain strong so we dont face a tough situation in the future. |

The company is filled with dirty tricks, and very little integrity these days. What a POS. -- "In the future, that which is not mandatory will be illegal" |
