Anne's cancer surgery

Yesterday Anne went in to have her cancer surgically removed. The operation itself went fairly well, although it turned out that the cancer was more entrenched than the doctors had thought.

Being a nasal tumor, this meant that Anne lost most of her nose, almost 2/3, which was more than anticipated. I am glad that I did not post yesterday, as it was a high-stress time, and poor Anne was so downright miserable when it was time to take her home, that I was pretty upset over the hospital releasing her at that point...

But, after a lot of TLC, and sleep, she feels a whole world better today. Although it is definitely a shock to see so much of her nose missing (at first), Anne is just amazing in how strong her body is, and how healthy her outlook: her reaction is "as long as the cancer is gone, we'll move on to the nose-reconstruction part, no problem" (I could not agree more!).

The next step is to see what the pathology report is, hopefully he got it all.

Looking at how large/deep an area was affected, we are both more convinced and glad that she decided on the surgery rather than radiation treatment. So much tissue would have been affected that it is highly doubtful that radiation would have been a good route to go. There was so little healthy cartilage left anyways, that radiation, even if successful, would have left her poor nose all but shapeless anyway.

So many kind thoughts

I just "tucked" her in...she still needs plenty of rest...and i am not far behind this evening! It is truly amazing what a good mood she maintains through this!

Last night was so funny though...we have a little "lobster" bell, that I thought she might want near the bed in case she wanted me to get something for her, and she would not want to have to "yell" for me...as she was already feeling somewhat better, she got up and we were in the living room watching a little t.v., when the bell began ringing! Turns out that Crash (the cat) decided that it was great fun to knock around...I only hope that he does not think that he is "ringing for snacks"!

Pete, bless you guys. You both deserve a break, you're one of the most helpful guys here at DSLR and I hate to see your woman suffer.

I'll be sure to ask MY woman to light a candle and pray at Santa Nino Cathedral. Her prayers are powerful.

My thoughts and prayers for both of you, Pete.

I hope that Anne's recovery will be fast and uneventful, and that both of you will be able to see steady progress as you continue down this road to her recovery together.

On a light note, I hope that Crash doesn't see the need to ring you up all night tonight!

I'm glad to hear Anne's healing, and that you're both able to keep a pretty positive attitude about things! I will be keeping both of you in my thoughts, and I hope you hear good news (like news that they got it all) soon.
Now, if you can just keep that cat away from the bell, life's good!
