| reply to lotusracer Re: Mid-winter thaw?
Sally Fields doesn't like to be reminded about that tv series I did go out anyway. My CPA died on 1/31 (a shock to everyone - he was only 55)...family members called all customers to come and get all their old copies of tax returns - or else we could let them shred them. I decided to venture out. If my Hyundai was a Catamaran, it would have broken all the sailing records - gusts were really bad. At times the little green car was being moved to the berm - all by itself! Got there and back ok - but it was kind of scary/interesting to watch the semis doing the same 'dance' as me. Just finished shredding returns going back to 1982 - that's equal to 1-1/2 reams of paper! Now to relax and watch a few dvds. -- Lonnie |

 When I was a Nun |
said by LadyL :It's sooo windy here right now. My little '99 Hyundai Accent doesn't like that wind, so I'll just stay inside and be warm and comfortable. Since all our snow and ice melted, I've been doing my 4.25 mile round trip walk route outside again, rather than on to boring treadmill in the basement.
With the winds fighting me, it's been pretty tough for me to push my 153 pounds on the return trip back home. If I had been a different kind of Nun, I'd be flying! |

| reply to dslwanter It's sooo windy here right now. So bad that it seems that last night several drain gutter things came off - I lost those little 'elbow' ones! Found 6 of the smaller 'straight' ones, but not the 'elbows'. Also, across the street, up the block, a tree had to be cut down - not an old one - maybe 5yrs old. With all the snow and rain, 3/4 of the roots were 'up'...making the tree lean towards other trees by the corner house. City crew - Asplunkh(sp?) was here. Watched the cherrypicker guy saw some of the upper small limbs. He then moved down about 3' - gave a shove to the trunk - entire tree went down on the lawn - just missing the corner tree (which should be removed also cuz the limbs are really ugly and are stretching across the street! - but the city won't do it ). Anyway, those roots have a diameter of about 3'. Crew chainsawed the trunk into pieces...they left...leaving the damned roots on the tree lawn! Now why didn't they take that thing? Allied (BFI) won't take it on p/u day. They also didn't take the sawdust from the trunk - 12' worth of sawdust in a line. Half-a**ed job...again! It's too cold for me to even go anywhere and too windy...I want to be safe. My little '99 Hyundai Accent doesn't like that wind, so I'll just stay inside and be warm and comfortable. -- Lonnie |

| reply to CylonRed Yup. The rain was hitting my diningroom window so hard I thought it would break! I would hate to have to replace a $1600.00 - 8'long/4'wide triplepane window now. Wind gusts were really bad too. For a time there I lost connection for my RR...did a call to TechSupport - they had plenty of calls from other users in my area also. My DirecTV was just fine - only use the box to watch my dvds, of course...so I don't know what the regular tv was like. Plenty of sirens around here - police/fire, etc. Guess maybe some wind gusts got to some of the traffic lights on Rt57/Rt254. I really don't know. Rain and wind have stopped for now. Hope that upcoming storm really won't be too bad - granddaughter is due to have her baby anyday now (1st) -- Lonnie |

| reply to CylonRed Last bit of rain coming thru our area - moving basically ENE. We have had a lot of wind even now. A evergreen tree 2 houses behind up fell down - probably because of the soft soil. -- Brian

| reply to Pacrat Hey you guys... better get ready....
Mid-Winter thaw is done...... our forecast reads:
Rains are wrapping up this evening as showers push east. Skies will gradually clear overnight. West winds will be breezy tonight and tomorrow. Sunshine helps us back into the 40s tomorrow. But a storm system moving our way form the SW Friday will bring the potential for a winter storm Friday evening through early Saturday with heavy snow possible overnight Friday night. Right now, we're looking at a possibility of 4" to 8" of total accumulation by Saturday morning. We'll be able to zero in closer on snow totals by Thursday evening. Thunder snow and an accumulation of 1" per hour is possible. |

I can see green grass (along with tree debris and brown mud) for the first time in, what seems like, ages. It's true about NE Ohio... don't like the weather? Wait a little bit... it'll change! -- I was born at night... but not last night! |

| reply to CylonRed Yes, I was exaggerating, the snow storm you spoke of is one of those "Welcome to Ohio" deals. "Don't like the weather ? Hang around a couple days it will change".

| reply to CylonRed Ok. I'll just wait for it to come on ebay Just saw a streetplow drive by...scrapping whatever was there...no salt, of course! Roof is nearly clear of snow, and icicles are melting very fast! I will have to watch when I leave the backdoor so I don't get any drops down my neck! Plan on going grocery shopping today, and checking out the price on HP60 printer cartridges. Just checked the garage temp gauge thingy - 50 degrees...HEAT WAVE !!!!! -- Lonnie |

| reply to Pacrat I think the biggest change is that the seasons have shifted. I can remember nearly always having snow on the ground by early November. Now, it doesn't seem like we get much 'til Christmas. I can also remember getting home from school and going swimming in Lake Erie... well before June. You'd have to be a polar bear to do that now. I know, even now, that I can go to high school football games in a t-shirt and shorts, but I have to wear a snowmobile suit sometimes, to watch high school baseball. I'd say that the seasons have shifted about a month and a half over the last 50 years or so. -- I was born at night... but not last night! |

| reply to BurntCricket said by BurntCricket :As a child I can remember real winters, real springs, real summers, and real falls/autumns, now we have summer and winter and MAYBE a spring. Now it goes from 80 to -20 overnight. Oh please - you are being overly dramatic - lived in Ohio since 1969 and we still have 4 seasons and I do not remember a time EVER that the temps went from 80 to -20 overnight.
Just like always - some seasons seem longer or shorter all thru my life. When I was a kid (3rd grade I think) I snowed on my b-day - April 24. Could not see across the school yard. It was gone the next say as expected. |
