 Contest????

Are we going to have contests this year?

I enjoy both the Scavenger hunt and the contests because of having two different themes and two different approaches as well.

I just wanted to note that I miss the contests, and I hope they will resume soon>

Anyone?? Anyone????

I third (or fourth?) that one too!

I'd like to see the contests and the scavenger hunts.
And I'd kinda like to see a "HDRI-THIS!" segment where someone posts 3 shots ready to be merged and everyone takes a crack at it. Gives those who are new to HDRI a chance to get their feet wet and see the process along with other people. (That whole classroom thingymabobber)

I had not thought about that, but its a great idea. I don't know why one of us could not start that on our own, sort of like the artify threads.

I did a brief analysis of last year's contests, which is why I'm hesitant about starting them up again. There seem to be a lot more spectators than participants.

Unfortunately the cat runs out of attractive, interesting or creative topics, prolly out of shear boredom. Folks can see that too and don't care to put their best efforts on a lousy theme. Maybe the forum can help with topic suggestions in a thread from which he can pick.

Why would you say that when he stated his reason directly above your post? There was a thread a little more than one year ago seeking topics for the contests, of which there are still many excellent ideas that haven't been used yet.

Because the reason for not continuing with the contests is the lack of participation. The lack of participation is the lack of interest in the topics presented. Indeed the topics suggested from last year would still be valid but the cat rules.

Please don't speak for me.
I have my own reason for not participating as much, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the subject matter. All of them can be very interesting, and attainable.

If "The Cat" gives the permission, I will explain why I don't enter as often as I used to.

Yes, Chinabound you are very special and different from the rest of us. No one can speak for you or about you. I admire your adventures but I'll keep that to myself too.

Good, because that would be OT.

I am not saying I am special. I don't want you speaking for me. Period.
It's really that simple.

I like the idea of someone in the forum carrying the torch and hosting the contest.
Someone can be appointed to host it (with the same rules as in the past) and at the end we'll just get the Moderator to lock the thread.
The appointed host will then compile the photos and open a voting thread ... just as Tmpchaos did in the past and at the end of the voting we'll get the Mods to lock it up again.
The winner of the contest will then host the next contest and picking a topic of his or her desire and begin a new thread.
This way, no one person will get burnt out during the year by hosting or running out of ideas.

As far as participation ... I've ranted about that for a while now but since we're getting quite a few "views" lets just hope the the photography fever spreads and bring in more posters.

Just my 2 cents.

I didn't want to put this in the suggestion thread, so back to this original one:

Now that we have many great suggestions for topics and it seems like a lot of folks who want to participate,

Where do we stand on the contest?

Are we going to have contests this year?

Could we go in the direction suggested by natedj See Profile in the post above which would sort of follow the scavenger hunt manner of things??

Or are we just spinning our wheels?

I just got my new camera, so I'll start participating. I almost posted an entry in that contest, but I didn't get the shot taken until after the deadline, so I didn't. I'm up for the next one though. I'd like to see them continue.

But, that's just me.
