Tonight in Tujunga, I still have 1mb up, but my downloads are terrible. I can't get speed tests much over 5mbps. I attempted to download iTunes from Apple. RR: 180KB/sec. Remote desktop to a machine on U-verse: Same download at 2MB/sec. There's clearly a clog in the pipes somewhere.

MY MAC HAS A VIRUS!!!!111!!

How stupid can these people be?

She kept trying to send me to online virus checks, and I kept telling
her THEY WERE ALL FOR PCs!!! And it's not just my one computer, but
all the computers in the house, Mac & PC.

So I'm interested in what other peoples experiences are with SoCal RR.

In Tujunga, downloads are a bit slow (3-6mbps), but my upload has been bumped to 1mbps. Knowing them they're teasing us with it and will take it away next week.

Then why was it our speeds were excellent while they were planning on capping our bandwidth, but, almost immediately after they backed down, our speeds drop again?
I hope someone has the time and the ability to do a class action suit, and a person who can not settle. Someone who can be the pit bull and hang on at all costs, until TW receives a judgment against them, stating what they are doing is illegal. (Settlements always include "We deny any wrong doing" clauses, which then allow them to keep doing what they did).

She asked me to again unplug my Netgear. I responded that she needs to check on the issue at hand - my 'phone' service does not go through the Netgear, and she still hasn't answered the issue on the event logs

I miss the days before TW took over Adelphia. If you called, there was an announcement up front about any outages or problem areas, and that if you were in one of the affected areas you didn't need to stay on the line because they were working on it.

None of this being on hold an eternity to get thru only to have a tech tell you everything's fine and the problem's on your end when it obviously isn't.

I mean, I guess he exhausted his troubleshooting resources and blames my little network for these crap speeds. It's always something with Roadrunner, If they just say, a router is having trouble, we're working on it. I hang up and be a happy camper :)

I've worked in IT for almost 10 years, and every ticketing system I've used has a feature to where if but a few calls are generated regarding the same issue, it throws up a flag and allows us to inform our customer that the issue had been reported by others and that we were investigating. all of this ducking and dodging that TW is starting to become infamous for is inexcusable. Really, this cant be that hard. I watch these forums all the time but never post, but it's just starting to get ridiculous, the level of service... (91303 zip here)

I went through 4 techs (reboot, :uhh:, call back pass off to tier 1 (supposedly), was hung up on, called back, was told there was an issue with a switch).

Appears to be an issue with a router on Level3. Not all traffic hits it, but those that do are hosed.

No issues in Valencia, but as my year on 'All The Best' is about to expire (and rate will jump $30/month from $89.99 to $119.99), I'll be either cutting TV, or trying out Uverse $90/month plan.

In Seattle I currently have 6mbps/1mbps DSL through speakeasy and have been really happy with the service. It looks like I could get better speed for less money from roadrunner, but I'm wondering how reliable it is. Latency is a big concern for me too.

Can anyone in the santa monica area recommend road runner, or should I stay with DSL?

I'm sure but it you don't believe me, come up with some proof they do. "feelings" just don't cut it.

"throttling" is commonly claimed against too many ISPs and rarely, IF EVER, proved for just about every problem under the sun. The root cause of the problem is often something else much less sinister and WAY more common like overloaded CMTS ports, bad signal, failing or misconfigured equipment, overloaded routes, and/or a sever lack of understanding about what is really happening.

Find one instance in the entire TWC/RR forum of what some one "felt" was throttling that wasn't proven to be caused by something else.

excalpius posted : When my service started dying it turned out the modem did indeed need to be replaced. It was improperly RF shielded and was near my printers, etc. So it was VERY susceptible to any power sources near it. My replacement one does not have this problem. You might want to check for stupid electronic stuff like that.

TWC doesn't throttle and recommending the swapping of a modem to fix high transmit levels in hopes that fixes a speed issue is a last second hail mary. Transmit levels bad enough to slow you down would cause packetloss first, it's not something they need to really guess at unless they're inexperienced.

What city do you live in?

Which would indicate that the cause of your extremely high bursts above 100 mbps certainly isn't your modem or anything TWC is doing, but is more than likely something with your PC or router, like reloading from a cache.

Either way, while my network/router etc. is running gigabit ethernet, but none of that is reaching the 100base T connected cable modem haha.

And I still notice a fast drop in download speeds when connecting to servers outside of SoCal. Never was so bad when I had Comcast up in San Francisco.

TWC is also doing upgrades in my area between 12am - 6am on Tuesday morning (may 26), but the notice says it may only affect my TV during that time and I shouldn't see any internet interuption (though they still give instructions on how to reset the modem and all in case I do). Not sure if that has any upgrades to the Road Runner system involved, but mentioning it anytway.
