From originally 1500kbps to now 16000kbps, I still do REALLY good to hit 35GB per month.
Getting my files faster than ever - that is a triumph!
More speed doesn't mean I have to, or will, download more... or that there is more for me to even consider downloading.
For the majority of Comcast HSI subs, this "cap" means nothing anyways.

(50Mbit/8bit-Byte-conv*60sec*60min*24hours)=540,000Mbytes/day possible

You are thinking about speeds and caps all wrong.
Think of it like driving... How fast you go and how far you go are two very different things.
Yesterday it took you 10min to download that file... today it will take you 5 min to download that same file...
Whether you decide to download more files is a completely separate and independent decision. |

But within the last few years, and even just last year, content providers have found more innovative ways to use the internet which weren't possible with lower speed connections.
Things like online backup and HD video streaming are now a reality with high speed connections becoming widely available. Computers are also getting faster and are now coming with multiple cores.
When people realize they can do these things, they will, and they'll end up using more bandwidth.
Four years ago not that many watched the Presidential inauguration online. In 2009 it was a record online turnout.
TV over IP is taking off bigtime. No, not your regular channels on the regular schedule, but stuff like Netflix, Hulu and high quality video clips from news sites like CNN and Fox News.
Content providers are finding ways to use the additional speed, and they're (we're) not going to stop. The ISPs can't turn a blind eye. |

docsis 3.0 does not change what u do . it just makes it faster. so because comcast comes out with faster speed that means you are going to change what u do on the internet now and download a lot more. most people habits dont change just the speed. most people dont come close to 250gb |

You were limited previously by certain speed, now with more speed, you can do more in the same time. You have not changed the time you spent doing something, you have merely changed the quantity. What the idiots at many ISPs seem to think is that all of a sudden you have more time but you will not have any interest in anything else. If I am going to school to study business, and I find all of a sudden I have the ability to do more work in less time, then I can also persue my interest in Chemistry too. See, I had interest in Chemistry all along, the thing is I did not have the free time in the day for it so I did not also do it. With more time I can do more.
Simple example of Broadband: I spent two hours downloading a 3GB demo. Now I can download that demo in one hour since speeds have doubled, therefore I can also now download the other demo as well in the same time I use to spend downloading one.(Yes, I know you can actually download more than 3GB with the previous and new speeds. It was merely an example.)
WITH MORE SPEEDS DOES COME MORE USAGE. There won't be any extra usage if you were one of the simpletons who merely payed for broadband for e-mail.
Let's say I was hosting one room of 8 people before. With the new increase of upload, I can now host a 16 people room. There really does come more usage with more speeds. |

Even if one iota of that were true, you're still missing the big picture. You would need to pursue a degree in business, chemistry, microbiology, physics, economics, literature, accounting, marketing, advertising, get phd's in all of them (in one month time), to come CLOSE to the 250Gb cap.
I know caps have a lot of negative issues, but 250 is completely reasonable. |

I am a member at a few of those online video sites, and VUZE.
Use them nearly everyday.
I also download movies.
Thing is, I am still right at that 35GB per month mark.
Same usage(+/- 5GB) as I was doing back at 4mbps, then 8mbps, and now here at 16mbps.
My stuff just gets here a whole lot faster.
Also, many Comcast subs don't even know what speed is, let alone how to tweak to get it all, how to use it, or even know where to use it.
As has been stated for years now - the "hogs" are that 0.01%(?) of the customer base.
What's 0.01% of 14.6 million. 1460?
0.1% of 14.6m - 14600?
So, *worst case* scenario is 14,585,400 customers that have nothing to worry about...
and 14600 need to rethink their usage patterns or - ?
Actually, me at 35GB can be considered being a hog, according to Comcast and their 2-3GB average user.

Wow.. it never fails.. this is always the first post.. you think you can give this a rest? It's a dead horse beaten to death, ran over, and drug through the field.. it's not even funny any more.
Besides, how many people have been complaining about hitting the 250gb cap? Seems to me that the barking has quieted. Maybe the "issue" isn't much of an issue, rather, just BBR user FUD. |

Well I think it happens to some of us who don't know about this 250Gig limit. I think its happening to me, though Comcast denies it. My internet speed has slowed to less that 500 KBps and Comcast insists everything looks fine from their end. I even replaced the modem and I still get very slow speeds.
The only change this month was that I signed up with Mozy to backup my hard drive to their service, my hard drive is about 200Gig. I also use Netflix HD service. I have a feeling that all this put it over the limit and they are slowing my speed down.
The problem is they keep denying this, so I still don't know for sure how I can find out for sure. |
