Nice...

Just got something in the mail from Comcast on Friday, saying to reset my cable modem for even faster speeds. And this morning the Comcast.com online system has the D3 speeds available at my home (although they add the $3 modem rental fee right from the start, so it's $65.95 and $142.95 for the 22/5 and 50/5 tier respectively -- I guess BYOM isn't available yet?)

I may bump up to the 22/5 tier for a while and see how it goes. I was thinking of trimming down the DirecTV package a bit since we're not watching the premiums as much lately.

Current MSRP on the DOCSIS 3 modems is still around $500/unit. Even assuming you get one on the open market for 35% off MSRP you're looking at $325.

At a rental rate of $3/mo, it would take 109 months (over 9 years) before you break even.

I figured as much. My next question will be, since I have Digital Voice, is there a combo unit so I can only pay the $3 once? Right now I have my owned Linksys cable modem along with the whatcha-ma-callit voice box thingie.

Another consideration is that I don't believe that they will even provision a non rented modem for service on their network as of yet.
