Current MSRP on the DOCSIS 3 modems is still around $500/unit. Even assuming you get one on the open market for 35% off MSRP you're looking at $325.

At a rental rate of $3/mo, it would take 109 months (over 9 years) before you break even.

I figured as much. My next question will be, since I have Digital Voice, is there a combo unit so I can only pay the $3 once? Right now I have my owned Linksys cable modem along with the whatcha-ma-callit voice box thingie.

Another consideration is that I don't believe that they will even provision a non rented modem for service on their network as of yet.
