I was out today, putting a new battery in my truck, and I thought it was much colder than it really was. By the time I got done, I was chilled to the bone. I know it wasn't that cold (around 24º) but there was just enough wind to make it seem like it was bitter cold. What really pissed me off was that it, obviously, was not the battery. It still wouldn't turn over with the new battery in it. I called for a tow truck to have it taken to the dealership down the street. I wasn't about to play around with it when it was so basted cold. The tow truck driver grabbed my keys and gave it one more try and the damn thing started right up. He suggested that I just drive it down and save the towing expense. I asked him what I owed him and he declined any payment at all. I had about five bucks on me so I gave him that as a tip, and told him the coffee, at least, was on me. I suspect the starter or solenoid switch is shot. I drove it to the dealership and left it for them to check out. They went out and it started right up... again. They still have it, so I'm assuming they're trying to get it to act up again, after sitting all night in the cold. They told me they were going to get right on it and would call me when it was ready. I never heard from them so I'm guessing they did not find the problem.

Street plow just went by on the street in front of my house (corner lot)...looks like hell! He'll eventually (say 1hr) come down the cross street to plow more crap into my driveway...until then, those trying to drive down the cross street better have 4W drive or a pickup! Even if I could get out of my driveway, I wouldn't be able to cross the snow barrier he made :(

I wake up and I have enough snow to build a snowman army and have plenty left. I am still considering buying a snowblower and just charge $20/sidewalk. Even the cheapest model at $200 would be paid off in no time.

The avalanche's 4wd has had it's workout today as well. Taking my wife to work was not a bad drive but had it's challenges for sure.

He just finished doing the driveway, neighbor
s driveway, and corner neighbor's driveway - took about 1hr. He then went to the front of my house (I have a corner lot), and shoveled the sidewalk and up to my front steps (so mailman can deliver my mail). That took him another 15 minutes. :) Got to love my son. I had asked him why he wasn't at work (he's Dent Wizard out of North Olmstead) and he said can't see the vehicles to fix them, so he doesn't have to work.
Before he got to my house, he did his own in Amherst, his f-in-law's 10 blocks away from mine, he'll be doing his sister's driveway (up the block from me), and then head home to Amherst.
Just love that young man (he'll be 37 on Feb 1), but I HATE this damned snow!
City smalltruck plow was by 2x, did a so-so plow job 3 minutes before son got here. Streets are really crappy to drive on. :(

The plows have been through, but there's about half an inch of pure ice on the roadway. As I was clearing the drive it started raining for about half an hour, then started sleeting before it changed back into big, fluffy, white snowflakes. It's been snowing that way since about 8:30 or so. Drives are already recovered with white. Schools are all closed... I imagine the roads are a real mess, locally, based on how the street out front looks.

It appears that one of the plows got a little aggressive... my mailbox is turned about 15 degrees from perpendicular to the street. Oh well, another thing to add to my spring "To-Do" list! At least they didn't knock it down completely!!!

I don't think we're going to get much of that freezing rain/sleet mixture. That seems to be staying about an hour south of us. Looks like ours will be just about all snow. Based upon recent history, I doubt very much that the schools will be open in the morning.
