Just because the entire distro is GPL doesn't mean that it doesn't break any rules. For example, you can play mp3s with gpl'ed software, but the MP3 container itself is patented, and shipping your linux distro with mp3 playback enabled without paying royalties is illegal. This is why Ubuntu ships with no mp3 playback support by default, I believe.

Mine came with Amarok which plays MP3.
