 | Anyone trying Shaw's new 100 mb/s internet Only available in Saskatoon at this time I believe.
What model modem does it come with? Are you satisfied?
Any screen shots? |
|
 | how much is shaw charging for this? |
|
 | $250 a month, pricey man.
 |
|
 | reply to Just ANON 100jigawatts!?!?!?
Ive never heard of shaw having 100mbit, if this is true then perhaps its a test bed for docsis 3? Im curious though if nitro would be bumped to this or if it would be a new package, and if so what they would call it. |

 | reply to Just ANON Yeah its true

Wow... |
|
 | Odd when I got to shaws site I only see packages for 256KB/5mbit/10mbit/25mbit.. |
|
 | reply to Just ANON its based on where you live. |
|
 | Oh that might explain it. Pisses me off that even the packages cost more in Winnipeg vs the pic the other guy posted. |
|
 | reply to Just ANON I think that price is insane. Id almost get it for a month just to try it but jesus thats not just a little steep thats a landslide |
|
 | reply to Just ANON Well, damn. So that does confirm my suspicions, though. They're using a generally low-density area as a testbed for DOCSIS 3.
And when this comes to Calgary, I'm going to be very happy to give it a shot. Though 200GB/month is piddly, for such an ultimate package. But, I'm sure they'll come to realize that based on just who does get it for home use, and adjust it quickly enough. |
|
1 edit | reply to Just ANON Still only 1mbit upload on the 25mbit package......BS
100/5 looks great but 250 a month? Come on, thats outrageous |
|
 | And roughly 8 hours of downloading, to boot. At least with Xtreme at 10, you get 24 hours/month to hit your cap.
Anyone who would actually need a package such as the 100/5, would need at least 500GB/month, because they'd be a lot more likely to use online backups or be running business class work from home. |
|
 | reply to Just ANON Why does everyone whine about caps? I've never had Shaw enforce this 'monthly quota' you speak of.
I like to think of shaw's cap as a guideline for the bare minimum I should use in a month. The more you use beyond the suggested amount, the less likely shaw is to contact you.
Just my $0.02.
Planning on calling shaw cable tomorrow and finding out if they're offering the 100mbit/s package anywhere in Edmonton yet. |
|
 | AFAIK, the DOCSIS 3 hardware hasn't been rolled out anywhere in Alberta yet, so it won't be available in edmonton at all until later in the year. |
|
 | reply to Just ANON lol ripoff. |
|
 | reply to Just ANON Darn,
I'm really disappointed with the new upload speeds over DOCSIS 3.0.
I currently use Xtreme-I but with the boost to high-speed along with powerboost I might just downgrade to high speed.
Unfortunately, the prices in Saskatchewan are generally cheaper too which means when this becomes available in BC it'll likely cost more. (Just look at how cheap mobile phones are due to MTS being so cheap)
Comcast obviously a much bigger player has a much better DOCSIS 3.0 offering : Taken from: »Comcast: 50Mbps Now Available In 20% Of Markets
"In upgraded markets, Comcast is not only upgrading existing speed tiers ($42.95 "Performance" 6Mbps/1Mbps and $52.95 "Performance Plus" 8Mbps/2Mbps tiers became 12Mbps/2Mbps and 16Mbps/2Mbps), but is adding two new tiers to the mix ($62.95 "Ultra" 22Mbps/5Mbps and the aforementioned $139.95 "Extreme 50" 50Mbps/10Mbps)."
I would expect nothing less then 2 Mbps upload for any higher then high-speed package. In fact to me I would rather keep 10 Mbps w/o power boost and have a 2Mbps upload.
Maybe this will change after initial deployment in Saskatoon.
I imagine the only DOCSIS 3.0 package is the 100 Mbps/5 Mbps and all the others look like DOCSIS 1.2 DOCSIS 2.0.
Oh well hopefully the powers that be change their minds after they finish testing in Saskatchewan |
|
 | I would imagine they'd be able to increase the upstream readily, at that point. It'd be an utter waste of available upstream if they didn't try to make use of it. |
|
 | reply to Just ANON Just seems that Comcast even during their beta did have 2+ Mbps upload speeds. Who knows.... different strategies..
I know there`s a lot more available upload but at the same time with all the upstream saturation we`ve seen locally (see Richmond, BC) they might keep it low for the integrity of their network.
I can`t see them leaving that available bandwidth sitting idle either but we`ll see. |
|
 | reply to WOW I can confirm the OP's assertion shaw now offers these speeds, I did this my clicking on "set my locale" in small text at the bottom of the shaw page and entering the postal code S7K 4E5. And I get the new prices and speeds. |

| reply to Just ANON Wow... $250. "Perfect for those who have multiple home computers and perform a variety of media-intensive activities at the same time." Huh? We typically run 2, sometimes 3, computers at our house and I can't imagine how jumping from 10 to 100 Mbps is going to make a difference. Fix the latency maybe.
And like others have posted, I could have 10x the speed, but only 2x the cap, for about 6x the price? I don't see a lot of people taking the bait. The 5 Mbps upload speed is nice, but it's just going to take me to my cap that much faster.
Also interesting that the old Nitro is now renamed to "High-Speed Warp" (and that the price appears to have dropped by about $12). That should confuse the 3 people who are now subscribed to Nitro, wondering why they aren't being boosted to 100 Mbps. |
