Anyone have more info on this? |

KoRnGtL15Premium join:2007-01-04 Grants Pass, OR 1 edit | I bet the price would be between $170 and $200 for that. They want $79.99 just in my area for 16mb/2mb service. |

Tarball join:2006-06-09 Saint Louis, MO | reply to digThisXL I don't see how they're going to be able to support that with the debt they're in. Just look at the number of threads about people not getting the 16mbit they're paying for. |
|
 | reply to digThisXL Charter should worry about beefing up its HD before adding 60 Meg internet. 90% of the people out there have no use for it. |

Maybe you should stop making up statistics. I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy being able to patch games, stream videos, etc at 60Mbps. |
|
 | reply to digThisXL I can see it now 60/2.5 but you would be lucky to get 18/1 |

shift_x join:2007-03-27 Grants Pass, OR | reply to digThisXL They had better come up with a good baseline upstream number before I'd ever be tempted. It would be the same ratio as Satellite from 5 years ago. 1M down, 28.8K up.
And by baseline upstream, we're talking 10M at a minimum. Nobody likes to wait an hour to upload to YouTube. And with internet that a person can download half of NASA in 15 minutes, you better be able to do an HD video to YouTube in under an hour.
Just sayin'. Heck, I'd be happy if my 16/2 worked 100%. I am going to grab a case of beer when they launch 60MB service, and enjoy being unemployed over being an IT tech with Charter that day.
And for their pricing, with the economy the way it is - you're probably right. Minimum $150 a month, and that's praying pretty hard. And I bet they're praying just as hard that somebody out there is still able to afford what they have, let alone bump up the internet bill that much. Perhaps it's not much for a non-struggling small business, or for somebody with an extra-nice income, but for the average Jim-Bob/Joe such as myself, that's money well spent on rent, gas, and insurance. A place to live, a way to get to work, and insurance in case you go crazy from not being able to pay the first two, swerve off the road and run through a Charter building. |

I too would like to see what the upstream on this is. That interests me the most. What are the acks for 60 megabit down? Maybe they should add the tagline "60 down - real world speed anywhere from 32-46"
They should of come out with this tier a year or 2 ago. Would of made more sense considering. |

Theta join:2003-07-24 O Fallon, MO | reply to digThisXL Has anyone been able to get this tier added?
I'm hoping that we'll have it out here, since O'Fallon is in the DOCSIS 3 zone.
60/5 isn't Verizon fiber upload speeds, but the fiber line I have running into my house (FTTH) only serves up 15/1. Sad, but true guys. Blame CenturyTel for not being competitive.
Side note - set top boxes have been updating for 30+ minutes tonight. Hmm... |

Theta join:2003-07-24 O Fallon, MO | reply to digThisXL Quick update...
Spoke to the call center (not the STL call center - they're closed) regarding the tier.
It is known about - launched internally on the 15th and updated on the 27th - but Aurora can't provision it yet. The STL outage this evening is due to an "upgrade", which I will assume is the go-live at the head-end. It also sounds like the customers attached to the 141 head-end should have the service - yay!
Long story short, the rep and supervisor were fairly up to date on their info, and stated that the head end should be ready by the next system update (Wednesday) if not earlier.
The SB51xx series will be swapped out, though no answer on the swap model.
I'll call STL HQ tomorrow and get some more details. |

Lazlow join:2006-08-07 Saint Louis, MO | reply to digThisXL It will be interesting to see how they handle this. In the past they have stuck to having only three tiers (5,10,16 now). I suspect they might go to 5,20,60, if they stick with only three tiers. They need something cheap so I think 5 will stick around. Since the price between 10 and 16 is minimal and with 20 coming in, is why I think 10 and 16 will be dropped. |
|
Theta join:2003-07-24 O Fallon, MO | reply to digThisXL You're right about the 20mb from 16mb.
The 20mb provision is actually already in their system, as per the rep.
I think that they'll move into three tiers:
Up to 10mbps Up to 20mbps Up to 60mbps
That would seem to be indicated by the number of people reporting free upgrades to 10mb from 5mb, etc. |

| reply to digThisXL I'm getting in the 2nd it's available, long as its below $150 a month.
Some of you pay crazy prices for 16/2! In Missouri (my area) I've payed $55 a month for it since its been released, no cable, just HSI, no contract, nada. Its been out 3 times, less than a day each. I get rock solid speeds to. |

Phatty join:2000-05-10 Valley Park, MO | reply to digThisXL Its nice to see Charter actually try leading the pack in speeds for once. Sure this is priced to a point that only a very small number of people will pay it but so be it. At least its an option for the users. Also I find it stupid they mention gamers as a possible target customer for this. Games could care less if you are running on a 5mb pipe, or a 100mb pipe... Its all about latency when it comes to gaming and I doubt you will see much of a difference in that between the different tiers.

 | reply to digThisXL All the speed in the world between your cable modem and the cmts doesn't mean anything unless charter puts a little more effort into fixing their internet connectivity.
At least in my area it's pretty bad. |

Ah well was nice while it lasted. exactly what is wrong with 5 Meg upload? Download is the most important issue. most people don't have need for even 1 Mbps upload |
