| DSL Connection Speed Poor
My DSL connection has over the last 6 months gone from 3000 kbps to 600 (on a good day). I am suspecting that it's my ISP throttling me, but to drop me down this slow, I am not sure. Could it be my old modem? It is a Speedstream 5260 and is about 10 years old, and it seems to be failing more often these days. Most times all it takes is to unplug for 30 seconds and power it back up again. But this near dial-up speed (and paying for and expecting HI-SPEED) is REALLY maddening. My ISP is MTS and is the only hi-speed internet provider available in this rural area, except of course the much more expensive satellite internet. And if the thinking is that yes it could be the modem, then is there an easy way to test that, other than the obvious replace it with one that is known to be good. |

If your line conditions look good then you can start looking at your modem, filters, inside wiring etc. etc. |

| Update: Last night I did 3 speedtests from different servers after midnight and got 3700kbps, 3900kbps, and to my absolute amazement 4700kbps. So, obviously it is not my modem or computer or router or line, or anything that is associated with my home or setup. It has got to be MTS throttling my service. I will try and get through to tech support and see what gives.
