[Serious] Under the knife...

An update on things here.

Besides the large amount of snow lying around now, I had the MRI today, and then saw the spinal doc. I am scheduled for surgery on Friday morning; no choice, as the broken part of the bone has a sharp edge aimed right at my spinal cord. Since I have no desire to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair, I have no problems going through this. The surgeon explained the process to me: they make two holes in my back, on either side of the break. Then they put in a fixator with a little balloon attached to it. The balloon is blown up and moves the bone back into place, at which time it gets fixed there with that little rod. Then they stick a bunch of glue in there to glue the bone into place. And then they sew me up. No showers for a few days, and the sutures stay in for two weeks.

I get the distinct impression that I'm starting 2009 out with a bang -- LOL!!!

Daffynition of fix·a·tor, n.
A device that provides rigid immobilization of a fractured bone by means of rods attached to pins that are placed in or through the bone.
