I signed up in January 2008, installation was Feb 2008. I signed for a 2year deal, locked prices for one year. In essence, I missed last year's price hike by 2 weeks. I'll likely be getting two price hikes this time! Woot!

I'm glad I cancelled them. Between OTA, Netflix, and Hulu on my 360, i was more than happy to break the TV price-hike tether.

I went pretty much the same route last July and haven't missed them at all.

It was just a matter of time before Obama was worked into this thread.

Maybe someone should startup an NFL torrent... instead of an NFL ticket.. DirecTv shouldn't have all the fun.. and money! Unless you like being taken for a few laps around the goal posts?

I did the same thing. I got tired of paying over $600 a year for mediocre programing that's repeated constantly. I'm content with watching only what I want to watch when I want to watch it via Hulu and Joost. which has added more content. I'm considering subscribing to Netflix, however, I'm not a huge movie buff. I'm actually enjoying leaving the TV off a lot--nice to rediscover the peace and quiet of reading. (I think I left the TV on and watched stuff I really didn't enjoy just because I was paying for the service and wanted to "get my money's worth.")

We've gone from Bush Derangement Syndrome straight to Obama Derangement Syndrome. It's been a smooth transition!

I gave away my TV and don't miss it. Look out XM...you're next at renewal time.

I signed up for directv 2 months after they first started offering their service. Price was $19.95 a month. If you wanted the HBOs you paid a company called USSB $9.95 a month. When they eliminated total choice, eliminated channels we watched and still raised the price we kicked them to the curb in 2007. We refused to pay $50.00+ just to watch a TV. Between HDTV, video tapes at the library and the internet I'll never pay to watch a TV again. Even more so in this economy.
