Don't blame them

Programming is costing more as ad revenue falls.

And yet my cable TV service with my cable company hasnt had a rate increase in years. Many people that have Buckeye don't even know of when the last rate hike was. You can't blame price hikes on programming when some cable tv providers arent raising their rates. it's more of greed.

Actually I work in the industry and I know for a fact that programming providers are negotiating for better rates.

You may work in the industry but programming rate hikes are nothing but greed from the actual last mile provider.

Like i said my cable bill has never been increased, Buckeye Cable will even tell you they don't raise their cable rates and they don't know the last time they were.

You explain to me why TWC, Comcast, DirecTV, Charter, and the other major players raise their rates when Buckeye doesn't. Other small providers for the most part don't either.

It is NOT the content providers its the last mile providers who are greedy!

Maybe because their rates are high enough already. Looking at their web site:
- $9.95 for HD and a remote
- $8.50 for their HD Plus Pack which mirrors the DirecTV HD Extra package which is $4.99
- $15.95 for their Starz package which has 1 HD channel in it.
- $14.95 per month for a DVR

That's because they're still riding out their old contracts.

When time for contract renewal, the rates will rise.

DirecTV boasted about not having rate increases for years, and now has increases every year.

Ad revenue is falling. Programming providers are out to make up for that shortfall. They will get it from you, joe consumer. Rest assured they aren't eating a loss.

riding out old contracts? We have 3 BigTen stations. No rate increase with those. We get new channels with no rate increases. NBC decided they wanted money for their local news channel- they got it...no rate increase. This town hasn't seen a rate increase in 7+/- years!

The family that owns the cable company doesn't just give rate hikes. We also have DOCSIS 2.0 with 3 coming around the corner. And i mean around the corner as they're adding new equipment in the field all the time right now. Roughly only 2 blocks on each node as well.

Also if its due to the "old" contracts ATT has brand new contracts and they just raise their TV prices. So the content rates can not be playing any thing with pricing. It's greed. AT$T wasnt even here a month before they raised prices. To which Buckeye is using against them. the handful (maybe 6) homes on my block that changed to U-Verse ended up back at Buckeye within that period of install due to the rate hike.

No kidding.

Internet rates are also eye popping - $70 for 12/1? No thanks!

they are the fastest provider in the area as well. Plus mostly the only option for Toledo if you want anything above 1.5meg DSL.

They also have local service, over 1,000 employees and next day service.

But internet rates and equipment is the topic. We're talking programing.

Then let us buy less programming, ala carte.

Because your company is small and meek. They are riding out longer contracts because the programming content providers do not try to milk the small ones for the big money that they can milk from Comcast, TWC, DirecTv or DishNetwork.

There's your explanation, but I am sure you won't believe it. The evil cable companies are obviously out to get our children addicted to their products so they have long term customers that will die of retinal cancer.
