Um, we have a bad economy. Bad timing for an increase :(

Wow, this is quite the wrong time to do a price hike dont ya think DTV? XM Satellite Radio is doing a price hike too (for add-on radios). Guess what? They are going bye-bye. We have to speak with our wallets and stop letting these companies walk all over us. Other posters have a great point. With Hulu, Netflix and OTA, there is no reason to need Sat or cable anymore.

Who supplies the internet connection to homes? The same people trying to sell you TV service.

Comcast charges an extra 15 dollars a month for Internet service if you don't have TV service. Plus you have ATT looking to moved to tiered based service.

These companies are going to get your money one way or another.

So in a bad economy companies are supposed to eat the rise in programming costs? In the end it is cheaper then cables 5-7% annual. When you look at Choice Xtra with HD($72.99) it is 4.1%. Hell gas in my town went up 4.2% over night. Most companies see increase of 12% and only filter down 4-5% in these times to eliminate loss of customers.

I have Directv and this is better then what I saw with Dish Network or Charter.

Fixed it for you.

That works fine if the shows you watch are available over the air, or you're not trying to display Hulu content on a 50+" HD screen.

I've also seen people hook their blu-ray player up to their 65" LCD using S-Video cables and talk about how great the picture looks.

If it works for you, that's great. It's not going to be acceptable for everyone though.
