| Connectivity problems
Last week or so I had an outage and the office said there was a problem in the area. They fixed it within a few hours and I was back up.
Tonight, my cable modem is loosing connection quite frequently. It's been up, untouched since the last time I had an outage and has worked fine. Tonight is constant up and down..
Anyone else having problems? |

Anyone else having problems? Hmm. It could be indeed a network problem or something may be wrong with your cable modem stats.
Try typing 192.168.100.1 in your browser (Assuming you're using a Motorola Surfboard modem), click on signal, and copy + paste the stats back here. It will also help if you can post back some of your more recent log entries (They start at the top) in the log section of the cable modem (Try going by the date where the problems started happening).
If you're using the wireless model, the stats might be in a different location, but they are there. Also, you can access it using the same address.
If any of this has you confused, feel free to ask for help.
FWIW, I haven't had any network/connection problems since I started using CableOne back in mid-December. I'm in south Gautier.

1 edit | reply to Boka I have been having a problem for over a month now they have been out a few times but no luck getting this fixed I getting a 3-Critical R02.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out and I loose my connection for about 30+ secconds . I'm on a soho acount and I do vpn and vonage and they stop working at that time.If you go into the modem »192.168.100.1/logs.htm and see if you are getting the same I have tryed two differnt modems but same thing. |

| "T3 ( Ranging Request Retries Exhausted )
Explanation: The cable modem has sent 16 Ranging Request (RNG-REQ) messages without receiving a Ranging Response (RNG-RSP) message in reply from the CMTS. The cable modem is therefore resetting its cable interface and restarting the registration process. This typically is caused by noise on the upstream that causes the loss of MAC-layer messages. Noise could also raise the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) on the upstream to a point where the cable modem's power level is insufficient to transmit any messages. If the cable modem cannot raise its upstream transmit power level to a level that allows successful communication within the maximum timeout period, it resets its cable interface and restarts the registration process. This error message is DOCSIS event message is R03.0, Ranging Request."
In otherwords, there's something wrong on the upstream side of things. Bad cabling, too many splitters, or a bad cable amp could do something like this.
More info on these errors can be found here:
»Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »What do messages about timeouts mean? (It's for Comcast but cable internet is cable internet...)
Like I said in my recent posts, if you've done everything you can, it's time to call tech. support.
I've actually gotten 2 T3 errors for the first time ever 3 days ago, but I didn't get any disconnections from my software. It makes me wonder if it were a firmware upgrade or something on the CMTS side that did this, heheh.. but I might be wrong. -- ISP: CableOne 3 mbit/300 kbit |

1 edit | Yeah, everything looks okay on your stats (Your SNR 34 db is marginal for QAM 256 modulation, but acceptable), and your downstream power level is well within range, except for the upstream power level. It's still within range but just barely, which doesn't allow much room for line variation/temperature change, etc. 52 dbmv is the absolute max before you're pretty much guaranteed to run into upstream problems.
Would you happen to know how many splitters your modem is going through? Old splitters that support less than 1 GHz may not play so well with cable modems either.
Here's an example of my stats:
Downstream Value Frequency 549000000 Hz Signal To Noise Ratio 41.4 dB Power Level 10.3 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

| Hm, a lot of it is just from reading the FAQs. I've never really played with any kind of cable internet connection until.. a few months ago. Oh, and reading the news articles helps me out sometimes too. -- ISP: CableOne 3 mbit/300 kbit |
