Something not mentioned

Yes the price of programming costs has gone way up. Now many local stations are trying to get more and more money. One wants more money despite the fact it has the lowest viewer ratings in the entire state. Which is why DIRECTV has decided not to renew their contract. Local stations make money off commercials and they broadcast their signal for free over the air anyway.

Lots of other things cost money too. DIRECTV has launched several new very expensive satellites to be able to offer more hd content and provide local channels to areas that they already did not offer locals to. HD locals are now available to most of the country. Then you have the development of the on demand feature, DIRECTV to pc, interactive features. Contracts for sports programming are expensive. All this stuff costs money and only a fraction of that cost has been passed down to customers.

The price increase amounts to change per day.
