Fairpoint switched over Verizon's alias names not username

I tried to log on to the new Fairpoint portal this morning and it said the following:

Unfortunately, the User Name and Password that you entered are not valid. Please re-enter your login information.
You must contact FairPoint Internet Technical Support at 800-240-5019 to reset your password.

After an hour of being on hold (got hung up on twice) I finally got a hold of someone from tech support. It seems that verizon created (at least for me) a cryptic account name and the email address I chose was tagged as an alias to the name. So when the swap over happened they did the vz12al... name instead of my real email address. This affects the email forwarding and other things done in the swap over, so I was told.

The person put a trouble ticket in to make the changes to the correct names (I have one primary and 4 sub-accounts) hope fully they can resolve this soon.

Till now I never even knew there were aliases used by verizon, I setup the account as email addresses not an alias? Has anyone else had this problem?

My username and password is working fine in their new portal. Not sure if email forwarding is working correctly.

That is my situation. Verizon user ID works to authenticate to FairPoint email server and as an email name. The Alias I set up does not work. BTW up to the time I changed domain info Alias worked correctly if I retrieve email from Verizon domain.

I assume FairPoint has not completed transferring Verizon information.

Anyone know what is going to happen to Usenet.

My alias, and subaccount e-mail addresses are working fine...I can send & receive. One bug I had with my subaccount e-mail address was related to the password. I logged into Myfairpoint account, and under e-mail settings I noticed that Fairpoint had removed the last character of the password that I was using for the subaccount password. Once I used the password Myfairpoint had no problems with the subaccont or related alias account.

This is how VZ has set up most if not all of their network from what I have found out in Ohio. I used to have VZ Internet in Marion, Ohio and had the same thing. They used the vzXXXX username but you could create the alias for your email address. It was a big headache here if you needed support cause they would want the actual vzXXX username and not what you created.

It was easy enough to drop them due to that issue and their internet in Ohio sucked.

Re newsgroup access, I was told today by a support rep - after about a 10 minute wait - that it would "probably" be news.myfairpoint.net, but they didn't think the news server was up and running.

Well for me,

I am able to log into my primary account, but my contacts were not moved over and e-mail is not being forwarded to it. I had a sub account for my wife and that is not working at all. I have called tech suppot a couple of times but gave up after being on hold forever....time to switch to comcast I guess.

Took a second but was able to manually set up my primary username and allias accounts with Windows Mail. All 3 work fine. Also tried webmail and didn't like the format, all mail was sent with "vzexxxxx" as the email addy, couldn't find any place to change that.

Incoming email is still being obtained with verizon.net extension as well as myfairpoint.net. Outgoing email has the myfairpoint.net extension only.

With Windows mail, just remember if it asks you to verify your username and password for the server, use your vzexxxx name and normal password. Thats where it threw me for a loop.

Hopefully this is the only glitch with the transformation cause I still have Comcasts number on speed dial LOL

Yes, I am having this problem as well. Was on the phone with a Fairpoint tech for over 30 minutes - he cannot find my account - and on live chat with Verizon at the same time - I cannot get into my Verizon account to get stored messages or contacts etc. Verizon is saying they cannot help me. This whole thing is unacceptable - only new messages from Saturday will be forwarded to the new account - if it can be found - what about the old info?

Was there any warning about this? I don't remember seeing a word.

I am glad I am not alone, and have not lost my mine. I did get a letter in snail mail saying that my username@verizon.net was going to change to username@myfairpoint.net, BUT PASSWORD was going to remain the same. When I made the change, it said that password did not work, enter RIGHT pass word. NO LUCK of course. I did get a email, from FAIRPOINT, but when I looked at TO: it had some other email address that I had never had, or seen before. HIMMMMMMMM this is very strange, so I reply back saying this is NOT ME, this is not my email address? And yes it did start with a VZEECLUU. REALLY strange, and of course I do not even understand. I did try to call the tech support number and it is busy!!! I went to live chat, waited and waited, t be said there was no more live chat. I have Windows mail, that is like out look express, so my contact info is still there, I have not lost any thing YET.. I am lucky to even get on line as fairpoint is my broadband service too.
PLEASE IF ANY ONE GETS THROUGH TO THEM PLEASE POST, TO HELP OTHERS, AND I WILL DO THE SAME. Thank you, KEP from NH

There is a massive issue going on with Fairpoint right now. They promised that your Verizon mail accounts would be intact for 30 days after the switch but they bungled something up. Right now Verizon has all the email being sent to your Verizon account forwarding to your user account at Fairpoint but Fairpoint's server is considering it spam, and blocking it for abuse. On top of that they've managed to lose a lot of account information. I am a technology director for a school system who used Verizon for ATM services and a friend of mine is an IT manager for an ISP where I live. We got our mail issues sorted but the ISP is still in trouble because Fairpoint swears that their ISP doesn't own the IP addresses that it DOES own..and because of that the PTR records are all screwed up and his reverse DNS isnt working..which is effectively killing his mail system for all of his customers. Don't hesitate to call and complain about this. When you get level 1 tech support..ask immediately to be escalated to a higher tier of tech support. Complain..and when they get enough calls, maybe they'll do something about it. We've run into problems with fairpoint before..we had our ISP go down for an entire day once..only because they had to escalate the situation to the VP of the NE region before they did anything..and then..they found out it was a human error that caused the problem to begin with. So..as I said..keep the pressure on. Good luck all.

They must be really busy, as this time when I called it rang and rang and then said your party is not answering, you will be disconnected try again later.

Thank you Tim, for explaining. I am sure they have a lot of angry people. But some did change over with out problem as some other people have said they have not had a problem. This is just all too strange. There has to be a glitch somewhere for some.
The luck of the draw I guess

Not a problem. I will keep you all updated if/when I figure out anything else.

I've spoken to two others in my small town in NH... and we're receiving nothing. I've also tried several configurations to allow my own Apple email program to download email from the new Fair Point web page, but it can't. My Fair Point email is receiving from other sources, ex:: Google email. Oh, are people, especially businesses, schools, organizations, going to be unhappy...

I have had major issues this weekend as well...

We have the primary that we don't use for anything but formal email from verizon and my wife's alias, my two aliases and the kids which I have switched them off verizon about a year ago. Got my wife's alias working with eudora on an old xp box and mail on a newer vista laptop, but trying to get it configured for her ipod touch was a nightmare. I guess the biggest thing I can say is that you NEED the whole email address for the username not just the username that worked for verizon. Also, if you have a password that is longer than 8 characters and go to make a change to the account in FP settings page on line then it wants you to create a new password less than 8 characters.

Best of Luck,
matt

I found my lost email account. It is still on verizon's servers at verizon.net. Guess I'll give them some more time. At least I can check it...

There really isn't any excuse for any of this other than pure negligence, that's just my opinion. Fairpoint has had plenty of time to work out a rollover plan, test it, and make sure it was going to go smoothly. Good any good IT technician knows to test EVERYTHING thoroughly before implementing it. I'm glad I canceled my home DSL and went to cable before Fairpoint took over. Not impressed.

I got my email address changed

I got my email address changed, thank you to Tim. This is what I did, for a POP Email user

I did the AUTOMATED PROCESS:

Go to www.activate.MyFairPoint.net/emailupdate

DOWNLOAD AND RUN THE ACTIVE X CONTROL WHEN PROMPTED

this will automatically detect your existing email accounts and make necessary changes for you.

NOTE * I did try to manually set and that would not work.

BUT this did work, and now I am sending and receiving emails from myfairpoint email.

Hope this will help some of you.

Glad I found this site.

Regards. KEP from NH

Re: Fairpoint switched over Verizon's alias names not username

I've tried several things, nothing is working. This is BS!! Time to go to DSL. I don't want to change my email as it is a business name.

My messages are NOT being forwarded from Verizon to Fairpoint. I sent a few just to check and they are being rejected. You can't get through to Fairpoint unless you have an hour to waste while on hold. I'm sure there are plenty of others who have the same problem. Some people will not even know until ... suddenly they notice they aren't getting messages from people that don't have their new address.

Are you having trouble with VZE...@myfairpoint and alias or sub accounts?

Email addressed to my user ID is getting through if I send it to MyFairPoint.net or Verizon.net. Alias email gets rejected regardless of which way I send it.

Early today FairPoint was rejecting mail Verizon was forwarding to them as spam. That seems to have been fixed.

I have no clue on how or why this was screwed up, and frankly I don't care, gives me a good time to switch my family members with fairpoint over to third-party pop/imap providers. Just did the switchover today to free aol email for one of them. Working perfectly in Microsoft Entourage on a Mac OS 10.5 machine. I foresee alot of people switching to either third-party email, or other providers altogether.

I personally think that it's no longer worth using the isp email for anything other than official isp communications, it limits you too much when you feel the need to switch providers.

Hello, I work at FairPoint. Customers who are having email migration issues who can not get through to the FairPoint Internet tech support via the 800 number, we have added Live Chat Support to www.myfairpoint.net. Customers are getting through to the online chat much quicker than the 800 number. I hope this is helpful.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued patience as we work through the email migration issues.

Thanks, Beth Fastiggi

Beth-

I've been able to access my FairPoint email site, although no email is being forwarded from Verizon. Suggestions:

Post an email to all customers with correct information about how to set up email preferences for different operating systems/programs on their computers.

Post an email to explain what's going on... why isn't Verizon email being forwarded? Let people know how long this is going to last, and if email sent to Verizon addresses since midnight Saturday will eventually be forwarded.

Chat rooms don't work for a lot of people... use every means of communication you have available. Customers should not have to go searching for answers.

Beth, the blasted chat thing doesn't work. Time-Warner of Maine is answering their phone quite quickly though. You might want to post a resume to them. Fairpoint is listing badly, I think it's a sinking ship.

Absolute worst technical support I have ever used....I have yet to talk to a person on the phone or live chat!!!! It would be nice if when you were on hold they would tell you how long of a wait or how many people infront of you. Now I am trying live chat help but I just have a blank white window that says: "http://jabber.telenetwork.com:9090/webchat/queue.jsp"
so I assume I am in a que to be helped? but who knows!?!?!?!?! What a joke.....I am one unhappy customer.....
