| [JOKE] Circut City
In case folks have seen the lastest ad blitz by Circuit City, the one with plasma's 25% off.....
I went to the one in Enfield today (I was there anyhow, didn't make a special trip), and the deals blew. It seems the TV's are the display ones, but I'm not sure but wouldn't buy one there now as all sales are final. I saw people walk in, look around and walk out empty handed. All I saw at the registers was people with 1 or 2 DVD's/CD's. In looking at the prices, they weren't that big a bargain either.
Bernie's had sandwich board guys standing outside with "Bernie's will beat or match CC's closeout prices!" That's not hard to do .
This closeout has been one of the biggest scams yet.

| reply to orion940 I feel bad for the people who worked at Circuit City. It is not a nice time to be laid off. My local Circuit City has been going downhill for the past few years. My concern is that BestBuy will have very limited competition and prices will go up for electronics. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use." |

| I think their main competition would be the internet now. I bought my TV $700 cheaper on Amazon than I could get it locally, that included free white glove delivery (although I didn't see any white gloves ). -- The opinions expressed within this post are my own and do not reflect those of my employer. | reply to orion940 I picked up a 320gb IDE hard drive (for my enclosure) for 20% off last week for $79. I was contemplating getting a SATA drive as well but they'll be on sale somewhere else by the time I need another one. Had to get a WD because CC didn't pay Seagate so they cleared all their stuff out. -- "While you can teach an old dog new tricks, you simply can't teach him to be a cat."

| reply to orion940 Went gift shopping for an ultra compact black body digital camera for around $100 today. Went to CC, Walmart, Target, BJs, Staples, and a local camera store, all within 5 miles of each other.
CC had a lot of demo cameras, but none for sale. There was very little inventory to back up the demos. At least two or three dozen empty inventory control devices were peeping & beeping in the store. (Could it be no employee had a sledge hammer at hand?)
Ended up ordering from Newegg |

| reply to orion940 A lot of these sales are handled by liquidation companies. I've heard they will often come in, jack up the prices, then excitedly claim "30% off!!!1111". So it pays to do your homework first. -- Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less. |

2 edits | reply to orion940 I went to CC in manchester and you are 100% correct. The deals are awful, so awful that you are paying more for the same hardware that you would get at bestbuy for hundreds of dollar cheaper.
I had my phone and googled some of the prices of the plasma, lcd, speakers they had for 20-30% Off, and the price on the internet was 500-800 less on some of the sets.
It is just a waste of time and i suspect an online retailer like Overstock might buy the rest of their inventory at cost or below cost when march arrives. Leaving the average buyer not much of a bargain.
However they do Have nikon d90 kit for $900, competitive but not 30% as they claim. -- Saya anak malaysia |

| They sent a mailer announcing another "slashing". 30% mostly riduculous stuff (one mans trash is anothers treasure). The other categories didn't change.
You have to wonder what the cost of doing business is stretching it out with high prices vs dumping the stuff and getting it over with. They got to pay labor, advertising, etc etc.
