thinking about getting DSL+Phone

Im located in Bangor Maine, I just moved to a new apartment, previously I had GWI 5/1 dsl and phone service, I decided to try RR tv, phone and broadband service, phone and TV are fine but the broadband is just horrible, all day its slow, im paying for the turbo 15/1 and barely hit 4 all day, and the routing and latency is just plain old bad.

Now to the questions, do Fairpoint provide 7meg in Maine yet? also can someone run a couple of traces for me to 69.90.34.195 and 66.55.150.102

Thanks
Alan

I'd wait a few months until all the changeover teething problems are addressed. I think 5/7 support is on a CO by CO basis. Will probably have to call FairPoint to see if you qualify. It will also depend on your distance.

Here are Traceroutes from Southern NH.

traces look good, though you are on interleaved.

Correct 3000/768. I'm not a gamer so I prefer robustness over low latency.

I wonder if Fairpoint would be willing to put a customer on Fastpath rather than interleaved? I know some Telcos wont do it.

You may want to give GWI »www.gwi.net a call, I personally have used their service, and it is quite good. I just don't feel that Fairpoint is quite there yet with all the problems that people are having at the moment during this switchover. The other benefit is that when you call for support, you get someone right in Maine.

I used GWI for around 5 years prior to using RR, GWI have a solid system but their backbone providers suck, I primarily use my connection for gaming and GWI use qwest and Gnap for backbones and they both have awefull peering, but for raw download speed and stability GWI are excellent.

Well I tried to place an order today but all new installs are on hold until the 12th, anyone know if Fairpoint will change their backbone providers or continue using the ones from the old Verizon system?

I'm on Fairpoint FAST (ex Verizon FIOS) and it's still using the same excellent backbone providers.

God forbid Fairpoint changes and routing/latencies go to hell.
