| Service? I wonder if Comcast will bill the folks full cost for their cable boxes as well as overtime for the techs to rescue the woman?
Just Kiddin....I'll be sure to raise a glass to those fellas for making my job a little easier. -- Remember the 2008 firefighters and police LODD's in St. Louis: PO Ballman, Sgt. Biggs, FF Hummert, Sgt. King, FF Riggins... all murdered...RIP brothers. |

I still do believe, however, that customers are responsible to insure their property and anything they have taken responsibility for - natural disaster or not. If they insured their homes or rentals and something happens, should they only cover their own property and not the stuff they have signed responsibility for? .. or just get paid on their own?
I'm on the fence if charging a customer for damaged equipment is proper or not.. but if you own the home, and have insurance, (or renters insurance) and even in disaster, I think you should be responsible to pay the provider back. I was always raised that you take care of others before you take care of yourself.. ie: If I had property that belonged to someone else, I take care of them before I take care of my own. |

While I agree they should pay for the equipment, the issue was ATT and Dish didn't want to wait for the money from insurance. Here is the article from DSLReports back on October 26th, 2007.
»AT&T Tells Us WildFire Couple Won't Pay
quote: Earlier today we reported that a California couple, left homeless by the Southern California wildfires, called AT&T to cancel their bundled satellite TV and phone service, and were told they'd be charged $300 for failing to save their Dish Network receiver. They also weren't allowed to defer the bill until they got insurance coverage.
I have no problem with paying a cable or dish service for their equipment when it is destroyed by fire but give it time for insurance to kick in. |
