Lame

If there's a base level of storage included in the price (it isn't free), then we should be able to deduct the cost of it from our bill if we choose not to use it.

No way! This is just another of those value add items that you cannot possibly live without. You know, like carrier specific email, Wordpad, ESPN, bank bailouts, and the list goes on....

Just like I should be able to deduct the cost from my satellite bill all the channels I don't ever watch nor want.

Or be able to exchange the channels that we don't watch for channels we would like to have.

I think it is indicative of a trend by companies to artificially inflate the value of their products with no opportunity to customize. It's everywhere now. From text messaging on cellular phones, more programs included in Windows, television programming packages, value meals, etc. You can no longer pick what you want because these companies have found that if you are given your choice, you will exercise it. That means less money for them. So they inflate the prices of individual products and services in a very precise fashion to make the bundle / package / value deal seem like a better deal.

To me, the bigger issue is that this mentality creates a lot of waste. From wasted food, packaging, consumers money, wasted resources to deliver television and other services. Well people are catching on, and that bubble will burst someday.
