Re: Netopia 3347-02-1006L

All Telcos use standard's based ADSL so you can use pretty much any DSL modem/router. Netopia has a nice auto ATM feature that automatically detects ATM setting. At worst if that does not work you will need to set VPI/VCI manually. If you already have a connection just take a look at your existing setup.

If you device to buy your own modem try to get one that supports newer ADSL2/ADSL2+ specifications. Newer version of spec has advantage over long or marginal line. If DSLAM line card supports it connection will take advantage of new protocol. If not will fall back to ADSL.

Thanks Tom ...

I have a previous model of Netopia (4541-300). AT&T states that this model box went bad. I knew differently. They just want to bind me to a new contract (more money for them of course). I decided to purchase a brand new model of Netopia (the 3347-02-1006L) as a backup device in case I needed to test the line from my end or failure of the older Netopia (4541-300). I'm currently having line issues (losing sync). AT&T states that it's my equipment. This model does diagnostics on the box, line, and troubleshoots other problems. I just want to tell AT&T the symptoms of the problem. I will check the VPI/VCI and set it up manually on the model (3347-02-1006L). Thankfully does support newer ADSL2/ADSL2+ specs.

Do you have this device or are you just the area expert?

I'm in Verizon land, now FairPoint. I had a Westell B90 dumb modem from Verizon when I first signed up.

Bought a 3346N-002 on eBay to replace it a while ago.
