| [netopia] 3347-02-1006 on non-AT&T network? My sad, sad story is a good one in that my local DSL company [Citcom, now bought out by Comporium], upgraded DSL speeds from 1.5MB to 5MB and from ADSL to ADSL2. I had a 3341, which, since the upgrade is not working well, as it is not an ADSL2 modem.
I bought a 3347-02 on Amazon Marketplace, but what arrived is a 3347-02-1006. It is setup for BellSouth. Resetting to defaults still gives me Bellsouth stuff - the userid appends @bellsouth.net when I try and setup what PPPoE user to login as. Our DSL company requires only a userid, no @isp.net appended.
So, I was wondering if there is anyway for me to flash the 1006 so that it is not hardcoded to Bellsouth settings? Any advice would be most appreciated!
Thanks,

| Re: [netopia] 3347-02-1006 on non-AT&T network? Thanks for the link! I tried it, and it was already set to off. Later in the list of settings, there is an option to type the userid; I typed mine [w/o the @bellsouth.net] and that seemed to have stuck! However, it still won't connect. When viewing the GUI interface [which looks very similar to the non-Bellsouth interface], it too shows my userid only, but if I type it again, it appends the @bellsouth.net address to it.
All other settings seem fine, but I am discouraged by the fact that the autoconfig option was already marked 'no'.
Also, the reset button on the back will not press in - I guess the 1006 models had their reset buttons disabled?

1 edit | I have the 3347-02-1006L. They are more lock down than the 3347nwg-006 version from bellsouth.
I just put in my non-Bellsouth isp username(email) and password and it worked. The GUI change to netopia after the reboot.
Make sure the VCI is set correctly, I couldn't connect because of it. Mine was;
0 35
I know some are;
8 35
The reset button works fine here.. make sure its not jammed or being blocked.

| Re: [netopia] 3347-02-1006 on non-AT&T network? My VCI was 8, 35. The previous modem [3341] had 0,0. When I tried to change it to 0,0, it would not validate the settings.
I *did* get it to work - by turning autoconfig to *on*. Yes, *on*. I am very confused as my ISP is a very small one, not owned by AT&T/BellSouth/SBC, etc. But it is all working; my 5 static IPs are working [i had to disable stateful inspection on PPPoE so incoming traffic to my servers would work; yes, i am allowed to run servers ].
I did need to use the telnet interface to change the userid to not have it appended with @bellsouth.net. I also upgraded from r6 to r9 firmware. But the key to getting it all to work was turning autoconfig to on. It was already set to off according to the telnet interface, so I figured I would turn it on then off again, but when things started working with it turned on, I stopped fiddling with it. Before I would get a red "Internet" LED on the front as PPPoE would error out according to syslog. But once autoconfig was on, it worked great and has continued to work.
Thanks very much for the tips/link - that really saved me!

1 edit | Other than loading a pre set GUI autoconfig also will communicate with your ISP Dslam and get the setting on it own. And since its working this tells us that a setting was wrong somewhere

No, not for me anyways I tried to install firmware from the GUI and Telnet. And tried every 3347 firmware. IT WILL ONLY INSTALL *NWTA* firmware aka Bellsouth.

| Re: [netopia] 3347-02-1006 on non-AT&T network? What's interesting is that it still honors all my static IP settings that they wanted me to plug in when I first signed up for them. Also, I did update the firmware from r6 to r9 using the Netopia webpage, not Bellsouth's. It still displays some of Bellsouth's 800 phone numbers and such, but the interface did not change; it is still the Netopia one [when comparing the screenshots from the post you linked to, my modem always looked like the Netopia 'out of the box' model with the exception of some Bellsouth phone numbers and the @bellsouth.net being appended to the PPPoE userid.
I am definitely going to fiddle with this modem some more, but not for a week or so; I want to enjoy this high speed for a while, as the last 4+ weeks I've been between fast/disconnected/dial-up speeds. So I am really enjoying having a working connection now!

| Re: [netopia] 3347-02-1006 on non-AT&T network? I haven't fiddled with it since the weekend; however, today the modem came up with the authentication window when attempting to visit a website; The internet light turned red; telneted into the config and retyped userid/passwd [typing it in the web interface will append the @bellsouth] and it still didn't connect; restarting the modem by issuing the 'restart' command via telnet did get it to connect.
So far the solution has seemed to be to use the telnet interface to enable the auto-config [but i used the web interface to type in all my IPs and settings, which were echoed in the telnet interface, even after enabling autoconfig]. When prompted for userid/password, the telnet config will not append @bellsouth to the userid like the r6 and r9 firmware do in the web interface.
My goal now is to see why I had to reauthenticate - if every 5 days it is going to ask to reauth, then there must be a setting I can adjust. The other thing is that at the time a severe wind and thunderstorm was overhead and causing havoc. But I wouldn't think a restart of the modem would fix issues caused by weather. I live in an area where very few others live and it's mostly trees and...more trees.
I'll keep a watch of this thread and update it. I may tweak some settings over the weekend; I do want to see if the modem asks for a userid/passwd again in another 4-5 days and see if there is a pattern to it.

1 edit | I never had a modem to ask me for authentication to visit websites.. unless the modem reset itself. But I think you can set the modem not to load websites though. 3347 does have QOS. You should try the same site the authentication box popped-up on to see if it does it again.. it shouldn't matter how many days the modem is on.
