What's interesting is that it still honors all my static IP settings that they wanted me to plug in when I first signed up for them. Also, I did update the firmware from r6 to r9 using the Netopia webpage, not Bellsouth's. It still displays some of Bellsouth's 800 phone numbers and such, but the interface did not change; it is still the Netopia one [when comparing the screenshots from the post you linked to, my modem always looked like the Netopia 'out of the box' model with the exception of some Bellsouth phone numbers and the @bellsouth.net being appended to the PPPoE userid.
I am definitely going to fiddle with this modem some more, but not for a week or so; I want to enjoy this high speed for a while, as the last 4+ weeks I've been between fast/disconnected/dial-up speeds. So I am really enjoying having a working connection now!

| I haven't fiddled with it since the weekend; however, today the modem came up with the authentication window when attempting to visit a website; The internet light turned red; telneted into the config and retyped userid/passwd [typing it in the web interface will append the @bellsouth] and it still didn't connect; restarting the modem by issuing the 'restart' command via telnet did get it to connect.
So far the solution has seemed to be to use the telnet interface to enable the auto-config [but i used the web interface to type in all my IPs and settings, which were echoed in the telnet interface, even after enabling autoconfig]. When prompted for userid/password, the telnet config will not append @bellsouth to the userid like the r6 and r9 firmware do in the web interface.
My goal now is to see why I had to reauthenticate - if every 5 days it is going to ask to reauth, then there must be a setting I can adjust. The other thing is that at the time a severe wind and thunderstorm was overhead and causing havoc. But I wouldn't think a restart of the modem would fix issues caused by weather. I live in an area where very few others live and it's mostly trees and...more trees.
I'll keep a watch of this thread and update it. I may tweak some settings over the weekend; I do want to see if the modem asks for a userid/passwd again in another 4-5 days and see if there is a pattern to it.
