 | Verizon/GTE people... Hey, just out of curiosity, how often do people on the Verizon/GTE network (the one that *doesn't* use PPPoE) have to release/renew their IP? This would be more for people that don't shut down their machines for extended periods of time. -- Got Broadband? |

 | I have Verizon/GTE and I haven't had to renew/release all. I also am getting great speeds. What speeds are you all getting? Mine is 717/125. I manually tweaked mine. Quoted 768/128.

 | reply to CircuitBreaker I've had Bronze Plus (768/128) through Verizon/GTEI since mid September of this year. My release/renew problem has gotten progresively worse since the service started up. Currently, I'm having to renew ip addresses a couple of times a day. Speed is good, though - usually around 650/120. |

 | No. Sometimes it'll release but won't renew and sometimes it won't even release. In those cases I have to just say "to hell with it" and get off the computer for a while. -- I liked your approach...now let's see your departure! |

Homer JMmmm, Free Goo join:2000-10-05 Springfield | The release all problem, could be a problem with your computer it self, releasing the IP is pretty straight forward. The renewal is a different story, could be on either end. What error message do you get when you can not renew all?

 | Uh...something like "unable to connect to DHCP server..." -- I liked your approach...now let's see your departure! |

I've found, talking with people, that sometimes Release/Renew will not work on a "hot" basis. Sometimes closing down the 'puter and disconnecting *both* the power and Telco lines from the modem, then booting everything again about a minute later, seems to work reasonably well.
Just my 2 cents worth......

Homer JMmmm, Free Goo join:2000-10-05 Springfield | reply to BigHeavy When you get the "DHCP server not available" it is a problem on the ISP end. They will issue a trouble ticket to get it resolved. You may be on a real busy DHCP server, you may need to ask about being changed to a different server. -- If you explain so clearly that nobody can misunderstand, somebody will. |

 | If I can ever get beyond Level I... If I can ever get beyond Level I at Verizon Online, *maybe* I'll get some REAL help. I got a Level I supervisor on the phone yesterday afternoon and he *assured* me that my newly opened ticket would be immediately escalated to Level II. When I got home last night, I learned that my ticket destined for Level II support had been closed 20 minutes after it had been opened. No reason given, just suggested I contact the phone company. Anyway, thanks for your input! -- I liked your approach...now let's see your departure! |
