Re: So what's on CNN and Fox today about the stimulus package? said by Dogfather:Workers are worth only what it costs to replace them...not a penny more. I know it sucks for many to hear this simple reality, but that is how it is. I agree but you would think ATT would get smart and look at their turn over rates in certain areas, like call centers and sales positions and see that paying a few more bucks on the top will save them MILLIONS in training costs. They have failed to realize this and continue to hit the bottom of all performance reviews when it comes to customer service.
If they took more of Tmobile approach to work environments and pay they might actually have a service that is worth anything.
I think what is really getting people mad is that ATT just put the new commission structure in place and people are seeing 50-60 % cut in their take. So ATT is making more and more off sales yet never returning that back to the people who made it. The union caved when those commission structure rules were to be ratified and let ATT dictate the rules. I think the CWA just wants to get a return on what they did for ATT. Basically they let ATT take a massive chunk out of sales staff pay, many of my past co workers are now extremely mad at the idea that ATT mobility side made record profits yet continue to cut their wages, hoping that they could at least get ATT to play nice and give them the same contract now. Looks like it didn't work and now people are getting screwed and ATT is laughing all the way to the bank.
I continue to laugh at people who say, "why are you striking now are you an idiot don't you know the economy is in the crapper aren't you glad just to have a job?" To that I laugh and it shows me the real character of people and the real reason why we haven't had any revolutions in 200+ years. People think just because times are tough you should back down and bend over and do everything they want. No one values their respect or dignity anymore they can be bought off in a heart beat. Yes I understand we should appreciate our jobs but we should also fight for a piece of the pie we helped a corporation earn. With out the people on the front lines the CEO's and hire ups couldn't line their pockets.
As Tyler Durden in Fight club said quote: Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.
| | | Rise above-I totally agree with you. I work for the company-handling their highest revenue customers. AT&T has been the worst major corp I have ever worked for. They tell us that we should be grateful to have a job. which I am, however that does not mean that I shouldn't be paid for the job that I do. there are people working there that haven't had a raise in 8 years, and there is no where to move up the career path ladder because once u do, u lose your union membership and get hit with crappy medical, no hourly pay, and mandatory overtime. I'm not afraid to go on strike as I have already been suffering so what's a little more suffering? We are used to choosing to either eat or put gas in the car. Or paying rent or being able to throw our kids a bday party. Many of my coworkers didn't even celebrate christmas and it's just sad. We are tired of impossible incentive programs, no pay raises, and now our health insurance costs are going to be 4x more what it costs us now by 2012, yet their wage increase table wouldn't even offset the increase.
so yes, ATT workers are grateful to have a job, yet ATT is not grateful to have us and there is never a guarantee that we will have our jobs in the next 4 years so I say-pay me what I deserve since they haven't cut a penny off the ceo's ridiculous salary, then they can share that with those of us that actually make sh*t happen there and do it right. over 120 billion in profits? yea, they can share some of that with the rest of us.
And there will never be any revolution as people nowadays are so easily scared and obedient. I like to call them "The American Sheeple"
George Washington and the rest of our forefathers are definitely turning in their graves-seeing Americans obey like good little doggies.... | |
