Re: Recovering a bricked SMC router

Have you tried the reset switch?...Most routers will have a switch that you can activate with a paperclip or something similar. Maybe a hardware reset might help.....at least worth a try. Good Luck

I just received an SMCWTK-G travel router as a gift. Yes, it's several years old, but was never opened. In any case, I plugged it in and it worked fine, but I figured I'd update to the latest firmware. I downloaded the 1.11 version of the firmware, and attempted to install it. However, after about 5 minutes, the browser's progress bar stopped moving. I let it sit for a couple hours because I was afraid to unplug it for fear of bricking it. Unfortunately, even after a couple hours, there was still no change, so I tried refreshing my browser. It was unable to connect and even after unplugging and replugging, I was unable to connect. Now, when I plug in the power cord, it just flashes the power light and I'm unable to communicate with it. Anyone know if there is a way to recover it? I read another topic in this forum that sounded similar with a different router model and it mentioned a firmware recovery tool. Is there such a thing available, or is that router-specific?
