Weird DSL problem

Kief posted : Hi all. I have recently shifted to a new ISP (Orascom's) that uses PPPoE over DSL. I'm constantly having a couple of persistent problems with it. I have not experienced these before with my previous ISP's DSL service.

The DSL loses sync at random intervals. When it does lose the sync and its sync light starts blinking, I have to power it off and wait anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour to replug the DSL so it gains a stable sync. Otherwise, if I replug it after 10-15 seconds, it keeps regaining an unstable sync and loses it within a minute again. Its very weird and it was not like this with my previous ISP.

I'm like 1.5 km from the exchange and there is no evidence of bad line conditions from the diagnostics done by my ISP's tech guy. I have two modems, a Paradyne 6381-A3 and a Aztech DSL600U. Both exhibit identical behavior so I'm sure that the problem is not on my end.

The second problem is that the PPPoE session freezes sometimes and I have to disconnect and reconnect to gain internet access again. But this one seems to have been fixed now.

Any advice or help regarding the DSL's sync problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
