Re: node pics?

It's an obnoxious reply for someone who obviously didn't even try to do their homework first.

Worse is this question has been posed here before, and answered. The SEARCH feature is your friend!

I did a search for "cable node" as you have suggested. It turned up nothing. It turned up a recent post about a node that was actually a tap.

I really hate to see people act like FlexBaud did on a forum. Often people will flame a new comer for not searching when the problem is that they do not always know the right search term to begin with.

His post began with "just for a learning experience what do nodes look like?" which suggest that he does not know the terms that many of us know. So when that person searches for the obvious terms and nothing turns up they make a post.

I would be more constructive to suggest some search terms instead of being a jerk.

If you dont feel like helping someone in a constructive manner, dont bother helping at all.

While you may have a lot of knowledge about a particular subject, it doesnt mean everyone else does. Something that may seem obvious to you, doesnt always seem so obvious to other people. The world is full of different people who have varying knowledge levels, and varying levels of intelligence.

Its probably just a junction/splice box.

A "larger" cable will come in, probably from the CO, to which will be connected or spliced many smaller cables to homes and businesses.

Or it may have two similarly sized cables comming in, both of which are connected together to extend the cable from the CO, and the box is simply a housing to protect the joints.

edit: or as below a tap. Forgot we were talking about cable here, not regular copper phone lines.

Hard to say... Sounds like a tap, if you're following the coax from homes to the pole.

Nodes, amplifiers and the like are encased in rather large metal housings inline with the "hardline" coax. You can usually see the "fins" on them that are used to dissipate heat generated by the active components of the device.
