SB5101 - "Restore Factory Defaults"

Hello
I'm wondering if it was a bad thing to go to the configuration page on my SB5101, and hit the "Restore Factory Defaults" button, and then the "restart cable modem" button.
I was just playing (and clearing my logs), but I remember when it was first initialized by my ISP, the logs said something like "the software download was successful" (or something like that).

And now I see no such entry...only some typical errors (T3 timeouts, etc).

I did notice though, that the Firmware remains the same both before and after I was "playing around" with it:

Software Version: SB5101N-2.6.4.0-GA-00-NOSH
Hardware Version: 1
MIB Version: II
GUI Version: 1.0

And I'm back on-line and everything is fine.

Should I have left the thing alone, or is it ok to do that for the heck of it?

I guess my real question is, would doing that get rid of the firmware the ISP sent out, and put it back to the way it came from the factory?

Like I said, the firmware stayed the same anyway...just wondering.
Sorry for the dumb question, and thanks for any responses.

You're fine; resetting does not clear-out the firmware; it just restarts the modem.

That's a good way to "soft restart" your modem w/o actually pulling the plug. (Think of it as a Cntl-Alt-Del reboot for your modem)

Every time a modem restarts, it compares it's currently installed firmware to what that the ISP says it needs to use.

If there's a mismatch, the proper version is automatically downloaded from the ISP and installed.

If there's no mismatch (as in your case) the modem just continues it's normal boot-up sequence.

Thank you very much for that explanation NoVA_CoxUser!

I feel better now.
