@cablerocket.net

Anyone actually getting 8 megs?

They supposedly "upgraded" the 5Mb service in the Radford area to 8Mb. I'm still getting only 5Mb speeds though. I called and the guy on the phone said that my modem was provisioned for 8Mb so it seems like I'd be seeing some improvement but I havent'.

For as long as the speeds have been 5Mb, I've always gotten 100 percent of it. Usually my speeds were in the 5.5Mb range actually. That's why I don't understand why I've seen no improvement at all.

Maybe I'll call again.

Well i get it sometimes.Very early in the AM.you do know you have to be on the mach 3 service?BUT the afternoon sevice is horrible.I dont know why you have to pay 60$ for a service that only works right in the early morning hours.8 meg in the am then by 3pm you might ase well forget it.connection down to 1 megs.I want to know how jet is going to roll out a phone service when the cant get the high speed right.Also dont tell me that its just my connection.I have been calling some of my friens in the rustburg area and they say sometimes that there connection is not even usable,but mine is just barally ,so i guess thats one reason to keep the mach 3 at least i still have some kind of connection.From what i have read i think it has something to do with too many people on the same nod.

My wife and I currently reside in Forest. While we are using Verizon's dsl, and getting a consistent 2.8/700 connection, we have had outages about 3-4 times per day for the past 8 months. We found a house in Rustburg right of 29 and will be closing on it at the end of March. I sent an email to them and they said that they're upgrading the Mach II service from 3mbps to 5mbps.

I'm just hoping that it's not as slow as everyone says. It seems that they are the only ISP in the rustburg area if I'm correct.

Yes they are unless you want satallite internet.If you game or anything like thats then yes its the ONLY thing you can get.Hey once you get yours up and running drop me a email and let me know what kind of speeds you are getting through out the day and i will tell you mine then i could have someone else on my side when i call them again to tell them that its not just me.AM speeds are about where they should be but in the pm hours around 7PM on,it just keeps going down.start off at 8 to 9 megs and by 8 im lucky if its 1 meg bundyho1@aol.com

Well, it turns out it was my modem that was preventing me from getting the right speeds. I returned that modem for a newer one (a Surfboard 5120 my old one was a Surfboard 4101), and now my speeds smoke. Actually they more than smoke. I'm hitting 12 megs sometimes.

I don't quite understand what difference the modem would have made, but all that I know is that now I can't complain a bit.

I live in the Radford area and have mach II ive had nothing but trouble from Jet,I have recenty got a modem for mmo's (online games) which is super fast.They blame everything on routers modems and you computer,but have never admited that it is their service.I have spoke with a friend that used to work for them and he has said the jet has not changed out any other lines around town since the took over the old company.Jet needs to be shut down and suid for false avro.I plan on doing so soon.

Yea there speeds are up then down.laggy then not so laggy.Not bad in the am and terrible in the pm.But after midnight it gets better.Called and just keep getting the run around.Talked to someone in level 2 tech support and he couldnt believe the speeds i was getting.I told him my download was 800 and he ask if it was my upload. He said i should be getting at least 75% of my speed and 800 out of 8000 wasnt even close.

@cablerocket.net

My speeds are still off the chain...

Maybe try what I did and get another modem. I still don't understand why my old modem couldn't handle 8Mb speeds, but that fixed my problem. I had my old modem since the Charter days but I think most cable modems can handle up to 100Mbps.

To a tracert and see if any packet loss is occuring and where. Call them and make sure your modem is provisioned for what you're paying for. Get wireshark and watch some packets go up and down the pipe, sometimes that will tell you what's going on. Go to speedguide.net and run their optimizer. If all else fails, reinstall the OS.

Good luck.

So fred where did you get your modem from?Jet or did you buy one?Im on my second surfboard modem and i still have these issues.I think mine is Surfboard 5101 or something like that.I think im going to call them and tell them to send me one.

Fred Jones

@cablerocket.net

I rode down to the office and traded it in. But again, I don't see why that helped/fixed my problem, but it did. Before I got the different modem, no matter what, I could never get above 5Mb.

Maybe you already know this, but since it's a motorola, go to 192.168.100.1 in your browser. That'll open up the configuration page for the modem. Under "Configuration" click the button "Reset all Defaults". After the page refreshes, either unplug to reboot the modem or click the "Reboot Cable Modem" button on that same page.

There's also a lot of info on those pages that show your Signal to noise ratio and other things. Poke around on the Internet and see if the values you have are what they should be.

Good luck.

Also i have a new laptop and that was getting about the same speeds as the one above,wich was xp desktop.Now in the am it was running around 7 megs.

Fred Jones

@cablerocket.net

That's strange how your ping is fairly good and your upload is decent, but the download is in the crapper. Based on what I know (and I'm by no means a networking guru), it would seem that your upload should be proportionately crappy as your download, but that's not the case.
