Re: [TWC] Roll out date for the Samsung H3090

NYC and Charlotte deployed a limited number of 320 GB 3090's. BHN deployed a few in Orlando though they might be deploying more of them though.

An employee who tested a 3270 says it will have a 320 GB HDD. The 3090 can be had with either a 160 or a 320 GB HDD.

San Diego is getting the Samsung SMT-H3270 HD-DVR. It's newer and better than the 3090. It has a very similar architecture though. A TWC employee said they went with Samsung since he says SA is really going downhill in QC. When Cisco tookover SA is when the quality when downhill. They built them in Mexico as cheaply as they could with little QC though my 8300HDC seems to be solid even with ODN. The 8300HDC's with SARA seem to be better than the 8300HDC's running ODN. However, TWC will ditch SARA for ODN starting sometime this year.

23rd street is now deploying SMT-H3090's however these boxes now have a 320 GB HDD. You can find out by looking at the top cover though Vol+ and Info on the box also does the trick. They just started deploying it. You can swap out your 160 GB unit for a 320 if you like.

Keyword Search is in the pipeline for Navigator. Rumor has it that TWC is using some Tivo patents for this feature. I hear that TWC wants to make Navigator just as good if not better than Passport.

Western Digital DVR Expander works with the H3090
Does it have to be an expander? Can it work with regular hard drives?

Don't remember, at work right now. The version should start with 3.xx.

How do I check the software that is running on my box? It looks the same as on the SA 8300HDC but runs much better

You can press the record button and that will allow for a partial recording but not a full manual recording. Unless you press record at the start of the show.

So are you guys saying that you can't hit hte record button on the remote ot start recording say in the middile of a show, and that you have to start recording from within navigator, even with the 8300? Because I can.

It's the software that allows for Manual recording. Navigator doesn't support manual recording. That could be added in a future update.

The thing is that there is some weird bug that prevents you from using a larger than 160 GB drive.

Is channel 199 and 51 better quality on the 3090 boxes , since they suck on the boxes now for MSG 2 and mSG + 2?
